I have seen some parts anodized two different colors, but they didn't turn out so well. As far as powder coating in two colors, I'm not sure if that's possible, please advise.

powder coating in 2 colours is definitely possible. Talk to mike or look at some of his pictures, his nismo rims are powdercoated orange and black. maybe send him a pm or something because he is a powder coater and he usually lets members send stuff to him for coating so he would probably know best.

Son, you can not afford.

Take a look at that guy who posted above you (KaienZ34), he has two Z's, with aftermarket wheels, he can afford.

If you haven't already spent some serious cash customizing your car, these badges are most likely not for you. They're really expensive to produce, and there's no way around that. If you want a top of the line solution to your burger problem, I am your man. If you're concerned that they will cost too much, you'd probably be happier with the plastic ones.

Have you had any luck downsizing the milling code? Any chances of reducing the mill time to increase production/cut cost? How about "step & repeat" ability, to make more than one at a time?

Just thoughts. My dad is a millwright, old school....

Better yet, how about making the milling code/instructions available to the public so people can cut their own! I am sure I can access a CNC here somewhere!

oh sorry, i didn't know you were from El Paso. ;)

LinPark 06-21-2010 10:42 AM

Still very interested in this and tracking it closely. One point I would like to bring up though, these "burgers" and recessed areas are in the front and rear bumpers. Any of you looking to replace those over the years (say with an Amuse body kit for example) might not want to spend your money on this.

That being said though, I still want to thank everyone who is working on this - some really incredible work and the guys/gals that put these on their cars will have reason to smile everytime someone makes over the badges.

One last comment that I think would really make these cool is to somehow find a way to work in every other Z style that was used over the years in a small, small logo (say in the background or around the circular rim) - having those and the HUGE 370Z logo prominent would lend itself to showing where these new Z's came from. Just my 2 cents on that - sure some will disagree. :)

That design will require some intricate masking to powdercoat the center...I do powdercoating, and personally I wouldn't want to do that. Too time consuming, which will run the price up even more..

kenchan 06-21-2010 11:38 AM

i still think it should be a 2pc emblem... front Z and background black/CF.

Lol ok... Are you calling me poor? Just asking....... I may not have spent money on my car (although it is a $50,000 car here) but this doesn't mean I have no money...

But since I don't make enough money for you I will make sure I can't afford your product.

Thanks

kenchan 06-21-2010 01:13 PM

ok so what do you think then... Just anodize clear and have the whole thing be silver? I'm not opposed to this since I personaly like the machined look, but it might be kinda hard to see the Z from a distance...

That's what I would do....keep it simple (and relatively cost effective). If folks want them black or color matched they can do it themselves..

I didn't say you were poor, obviously you are not if you're drive a 370. I just dont think you understand what I'm producing here. Theres no way in hell I can compete with the $220/set price tag of the Z store emblems. I would be very pleased if I could produce them for twice that price, but we shall see.

No need to get butt-hurt, just try to be less annoying if you're going to post in this thread.:tiphat:

Sibze 06-21-2010 02:12 PM

LOL wtf are you talking about I never posted anything about some store bought stuff...

Trust me though I will not be buying one from you now. You go off on a personal attack when I didn't say sh*t. Not once did I talk about your prudoct baddly nor did I say anything about a price (how would I, you haven't said anything about price)

ps while we are on this topic since you are trying to sell something on this site shouldn't you pay to be a vendor like all the others on this site...

i'd put a badge on the front, that's about it :) edit: i should add i'm not breaking the bank for this badge though. if you're going to charge upwards of $500 for a badge, thank you for your efforts, but i can put that into my pillow or housewiph fund first. :rofl2:

and i wholeheartedly disagree with your opinion :rofl2: keep the badges clean, it's nice to pay homage and stuff but too busy = fail

It will amount to more in there anyways.

That's really too bad, these did have a lot of promise and I was interested in the two tone myself, now I'm just waiting for the letter from Nissan USA to show up.

Same place it always goes when you ask the unwashed masses for opinions on custom, limited edition, expensive parts.....

Speaking as an unwashed, massive person... :icon17:

I like the project, and I can understand why it would be pricey.

I just didn't like how Stacker talked down to Sibze. There are nicer ways of saying, "It'll be very pricey" without insulting someone who has just paid your work a compliment.

But I still like the badges and hope for the success of the project.

I kno, :drama:

Jordo! 06-21-2010 04:31 PM

Erm... anyway... do we have a rough ballpark price yet...?

Wait is this it?

So, your ball park is going be over for $220 a set of two?

Uh... maybe just one please :ugh2:

Not saying they aren't worth it, and I'm assuming you would be adding very little mark-up to make it worth your while, but still -- ouch. That is a bit high for an emblem, even a beautiful one.

That said, having seen the plastic ones, I'd rather buy one of your metal ones for a few bucks more.

Don't ever ask a skilled artisan to sell his work cheap. Time, skilz, training, raw materials and hundred thousand $+ CNC machines (that you're getting the benefit of for free) don't come without a price....

This. It's a one-off, custom item. He must be undertaking great personal expense to produce these things. The bonus is that the piece will be relatively unique and very high quality.

wheee! 06-21-2010 04:47 PM

My momma always said...

"be sure to get what you like or you'll be forced to like what you get...." ;)

I will forgo my CBE system to have these badges if necessary. That is how much I appreciate custom work like this! Props to the OP's.
