Try only using your insurance for the big things, I wrecked my Buick Regal on New Years Eve my fault. The Honda Pilot I rearended cost over 6K to fix, I sold what was left of my Regal for 350.00, went out and bought a new 370Z and this accident was forgiven, but I have to stay claim free for 5 more years.

Not sure how much damage you have or how much it will cost to fix - I had a very similar incident a few months back - came across the entire tread of a semi spread across the entire lane of the interstate at night and absolutely no way to avoid it. Hitting it tore a whole in the bumper and completely crushed the foglight on my Odyssey. I actually passed the truck on the side of the road as I got off at the next exit to check the damage. I should've gone back and gotten the insurance information of the trucker but I never did. To replace the bumper and the foglight ended up costing me about $1k. The shop did a great job but I'm still ticked to this day that people have to go through stuff like that.

Good Luck!

The simple answer is to not allow retreads and require TPMS for truckers.

I don't know how many times I've been near or around a trucker that had a blown tire, and didn't seem to know/care...

this yr was a bad yr for truck tires.. hit 3 shreds of tire no bad damage just chips and a small dent

same thing happened to me on my way up to Oregon last week. Gave my front bumper the dirty sanchez rubber mark and put a nice dent on one of my Fast Intentions CBE mufflers.

I reported it to my insurance and told them i couldnt avoid it because it blended in with the road and only had to pay the deductible. It was considered non at fault so my premium didnt go up at all. total damage was like 1400 dollars.

That should be cover under comprehensive coverage and not collision, rates should not go up.

i think it will depend on the insurance company.. same thing happened to me a couple of years back. i was in my vette and hit a blown out tire.. wished i would have paid for it myself. insurance put it as a at fault CROOKS and it stayed on my record for 3 years
