Heat Pouring In

Yesterday i was driving to the movies. it was about 60 degrees out, i had the windows down and the A/C off. However, what should have been a nice cool drive, turned into a very warm one. There was a lot of heat pouring in from the vents at my legs. My oil temp was a tick above 220, and i was just cruising, but it was a noticeable amount of heat and it was weird. I ended up just shutting the windows and turning on the AC, and then that same vent just shelled out cold air, however. if the climate control is off, why would hot hair from the engine bay be funneling into my cabin. Has anyone experienced this or can shed some light on this situation?

Just because the climate control is off doesnt mean the vents are closed. What you can do is turn the climate control back on then switch to the face vents turn it back off and then close the vents.

Just because you have the fan turned off doesn't mean the climate control is off. For the climate control to be in completely off mode you have to also turn the temperature dial to the lowest setting, check the A/C is off and turn the fan switch to off. You will still have air coming in but it will be the outside air temperature.

hmm. i knew how to control this in my altima. i would just turn the air to recirculate and turn the fan off, then nothing came in. since i have the nav in the Z, i just hit the off button, so i dont know if turning any knobs after that makes any difference.

I also found in my Z theres alot of heat coming by my feet/legs. However its not really from the climate controls. I find the heat of the engine is coming through the firewall. I took the undercover tray off and it allows about more cooling in the engine bay and now i dont feel the feet by my legs.

Not sure if this is the same thing you are feeling but it worked for me.

i keep my a/c in auto despite the windows being open.

ditto but our cars do put out alot of engine heat. If someone comes up to your window to talk to you they will get a quick heat flash.

I just get a heat flash by looking at my Z...

i love that our engines produce so much heat. its raw, unrefined and animalistic. somehow signifies power in my head..

in my head it signifies my legs being really hot. So in the nav package is there a way to prevent air coming in when the system is of like in the base model?

My roadster with touring and no nav is the same way. There isn't any way to shut the vents completely. This is fairly common any more. The Mazda Speed3 I traded in was the same way. Push the button to change it to recirculate. If it's in the fresh air position it allows outside air to be forced in as you drive even though the fan is off.

Fan Off:
Air direct: any
Air Temp: any
In/recylce: recycle

That shuts off outside air, and it won't get hotter or colder (except due to outside factors), and there will be no air movement inside the vehicle, unless induced by the passenger or the driver from either the intake or exhaust ports.

i wonder if you have a firewall plug that got dislodged? have you been running any wires or had any electrical work done?

also for the guy that removed his engine undertray, do you realize that will change the aero of the car and the flow of air through the radiator etc ? not sure how bad the effect will be, but it matters
