in front of my face..
MY rear bumper got messed up pretty bad...(i think the impact hit parts of the rear suspension too) but the beemer
had some scuffs on the bumper and hood... wtf!!!!
the body shop told me that i would have to get a new suspension
and an alignment AND a bumper plus new airbags.
f*ckkkkkk

bigboyzben 02-11-2009 05:48 PM

Ouch, that sucks! How fast was the BMW going when it hit you? I'm guessing this didn't happen today since the weather is actually pretty nice today. I know when the air bags deploy on the BMWs it gets expensive quick.

If you don't mind, post up an estimate when the claims adjustor takes a look at it.

WShade 02-11-2009 05:48 PM

That is horrible! First of all, are you ok? I don't know the rules and regulations for CA but make sure you file a diminished value claim.

SoCal 370Z 02-11-2009 05:48 PM

Sorry to hear about your accident. At least you are safe?

RCZ 02-11-2009 05:50 PM

Oh man, that is my worst fear right now. That is so bad. I am sorry to hear what happened to you...I'm praying that it didn't affect your chassis.

StLRedrider 02-11-2009 06:00 PM

Sorry to hear about your Z, how many miles were on the car when this happened? That really sucks. Sounds like my bad luck, had a cbr900rr 1 day 17 miles on it and ran into some oil in the road, $7000. in damage.

ssqpolo 02-11-2009 06:14 PM

ahh man..i think ur the first one down. sorry to hear that. hope everything works out okay. sooooooo time for zele body kit? =P

Namir 02-11-2009 06:23 PM

Nooooooooooooo not these threads already!

Hope you are OK man, sorry about the car, hopefully the damage is not too bad and can be fixed.

BanningZ 02-11-2009 06:45 PM

That ******* sucks!

What the hell???

Is this the first 370Z wreck?

Stupid bimmer

SoCal 370Z 02-11-2009 06:47 PM

What was the person doing that hit you, text messaging? We have had one friend get rear-ended, and another friend's husband killed by drivers who were sending text messages over their mobile phone while driving.

chimZEE370 02-11-2009 06:54 PM

omg!!! oh well looks like a bodykit ZELE??????

People in this country need to respect driving more. When you are in a car, nothing is more important than driving.

nogoodname 02-11-2009 07:00 PM

ohh...wow..... at least you are ok..... have any pics of the damage??

Phil Wallace 02-11-2009 07:12 PM

All that matters is that you are ok.
Did you hit the car in front of you? You mentioned that your airbags deployed.

AK370Z 02-11-2009 07:41 PM

I am very sad to hear this. But we are all glad that you're okay. Anything can be replaced but you life or part of your body can not!

As Phil said, "Did you hit the car in front of you?" also, make sure they DO a very good inspection before estimating the damage and DO NOT settle of used or non OEM parts. Ask your adjuster if you can take it to your local Nissan dealer for fix.

I hope there's no chassis damage. It absolutely sucks if you do and they don't total your car. They have machine that "supposedly" straightens your car chassis but it never feels the same again. I was a victim of a "irresponsible" driver as well.

Hope everything works out at your favor and keep us posted. BTW, is this the first 370Z accident reported?

par4bmw 02-11-2009 07:43 PM

Glad you are OK. Good luck with the insurance and repairs. Make sure they take care of it right.

Second that.

DIGItonium 02-11-2009 08:13 PM

Holy crap sorry to hear that! Glad you're fine. How does one deal with that? First payment barely started and already get hit. One of my friends bought a brand new TL over 3 years ago. Barely 1 month of ownership he got in a fender bender.

You should talk to the lawyer.

drmike 02-11-2009 09:04 PM

mattkim85, man, that sucks. Sorry you got pranged.

I worked on a car from age 14 through age 21 back in the day, working it up from a $75 junker up to a super-clean, everything-new machine. After all that, a girl in a POS rear-ended me at an intersection and totaled the car (and broke my Recaro seat!!!). At least she had insurance that paid in full. Anyway, i feel your pain!

G&M Performance 02-11-2009 09:59 PM

Good luck with the repairs. At least everybody is ok.

WooZ 02-11-2009 10:20 PM

That sucks big time bro. Glad you ok though.

nogoodname 02-11-2009 10:23 PM

you must check the frame.....i'm sure it's damaged if the suspension needs changing

this is no joke....a bent frame will never be same ever.....so take it to a high rep shop to get it fixed as best as possible and the other person insurance should take care of it

mattkim85 02-12-2009 12:24 AM

thanks for the reply guys.

yea im alrite physically..
im just really pissed off that this happened..
my lawyer told me to go to the doctor to get some x-rays
to see if everything is ok.

the police did a report and everything but i didnt get a chance to take any pics but the guy in the bmw did. at least he seemed to be sorry.

and "lucky" for me there were no cars in front of me when the accident occurred so the front of the car is fine.. sigh

arghh

o0javi0o 02-12-2009 01:07 AM

men, at least you are ok.
Hope everything get fixed right and you dont loose the attention of the 370z. What about the insurance?
As Ak said, try to verify if your Nissan dealer could work that for you (body shop) or if they can recommend you loyalty body shop instead of using Insurance "recommended" shops.
Sometimes, recommended insurance shops will do a move of the way job (quick fix, give me the money).
Hope everything got solved easy without any pain in the a....s

Exactly and don't get me started on how they use reconditioned , used or cheap aftermarket parts to fix your car!!! Try to get a Genuine dealer to fix it. If no good dealer around and there's a really good body shop in your area, have them use ONLY OEM NEW parts.

Also, what insurance company do you have?(Do not feel obligated to disclose this info if you don't want to)

Minicobra1 02-12-2009 03:50 AM

Down but not out, get that thing fixed and back out on the road quick!
Really glad your ok, I'm sure you can get her back together again.

Crash 02-12-2009 04:04 AM

HOLY CRAP!

Man I'm sorry! I bet your stomach has been in knots about this. (That's how I felt when I got into my first big accident.)

Yes, definitely do not setting for anything at all! Have the frame checked and then double checked!

It's like my friends and I always say, "You can't own a nice car in Los Angeles."

semtex 02-12-2009 08:10 AM

OMG. Interesting that your airbags went off even though your front end didn't hit anything.

Anyway, three things:

1. I'm glad you're okay.

2. I commend you for not pummeling the other driver's face into the pavement.

3. Even though you say you're okay physically, definitely follow your lawyer's advice and get a thorough exam. My dad got rear ended years ago, and thought he was okay. Then 8 years later, he started developing back problems which have never gone away. When he started having back problems and got an MRI, the doc said to him 'You got into a car accident a while back, didn't you? Sometimes back injuries can take over a decade to manifest themselves.' It's a frightening thought. Here's the thing -- even though it was already 8 years after the accident, the statute of limitations wouldn't have prevented him from suing, because the clock doesn't start ticking on the statute of limitations until you become aware of the injury. But his mistake was that after the accident, he signed something that basically released the other driver's insurance company from any future liability. Like they told him that if he wanted them to pay for his car repairs, he'd have to sign this release on future liability. He didn't have a lawyer, and just agreed to sign it. Don't let this guy's insurance company dupe you into signing something like that the way my dad did. If injuries show up 20 years from now, you want to still be able to go after them.

Alexsered 02-12-2009 08:14 AM

glad you are okay, sucks that your z is already jacked up. BUT

accident threads without pictures BLOW, post some pics of the damage.

Sheesh, give the guy a break. I'm sure there were other things going through his mind at the time than 'oh man, I need to take some pics for the sake of entertaining everyone on the forum'. He already said he didn't get a chance to take pics.

I know, you have to take that light heartedly. It's not his fault, and the other dude's insurance is going to be paying for it all. So other than being without the Z for a while, at least he isn't paying out of pocket for it.

Agreed. I am most concerned about his neck(since he was rear ended). You may not feel the pain now, but 3 days or 3 weeks from now, you may start very bad neck pain (Even though I hope not). So, get yourself checked as your lawyer said.

Also, since your airbags deployed, you car has lost "substantial" value. DO NOT forget to file "diminished value" request.

Just curious, how did the active head restraints work?

fillyv 02-12-2009 10:34 AM

Sorry to hear about your car. that really blows. Sounds like it messed up your rear body pretty badly. I work in a body shop/hot rod shop. The good thing about your car is that its brand new. You wont have to worry about any used or aftermarket parts. Dont get mad though if the original estimate is way low. Its sounding like its a pretty complicated hit. I deal with this kind of thing everyday. The hardest part is dealing with the insurance companies. Good luck, and I hope your ok.

KManZ 02-12-2009 12:18 PM

Bad deal, man, sorry to hear :( I got into an accident a few weeks after owning my first 350 back in early 2003, and because the car was so new, parts were difficult to get. I was without my new Z for the whole summer after that. Hope that isn't the case for you.

OMGWTFBBQ 02-12-2009 12:28 PM

I DEFINITELY feel your pain man. My Civic Si was rear ended at 30+ mph within the first month of ownership. My IS350 was backed into in a parking lot just recently too. It was a hit and run. :(

Anyways, glad to see you're okay. That's the first thing that should be taken care of. Your car will be fine, just make sure YOU'RE fine.

I see you're located in Los Angeles. I know a bunch of shops, but they're located in Orange County. A good shop located in LA, well, relatively close, is M1 Autobody. They do a bunch of cars in the show circuit. They're on the pricey side, but they do good work and will take care of your car in a proper manner.

Hope everything goes well for you!

I had just parked in a mall parking structure and was walking to the stairs when I see a woman in an SUV trying to park in space marked for compacts; she hits the car in adjacent stall destroying the rear corner and complete taillight assembly. What does she do? She pulls away, drives down to another level and parks! What she did not see is that I saw her, and raced down the stairs to watch her park on the lower level. I call the police, explain the event and show the damage to both vehicles. They take my statement (and my driver’s license information, although I asked to stay out of it). About one week later I receive a letter in the mail. It was the woman whose car had been hit. She wrote to thank me as the car was brand-new, and it was her birthday the day she was hit. She was surprised that someone had taken the time to chase down the other vehicle and file a report, because in today's world people do not care. Anyway, it made her day as the other woman was held accountable versus the hit and run it initially was.

I am following this thread as the cost of repair, and the extent of the damage will be interesting not only for us, but for the insurance industry.

dad 02-12-2009 04:10 PM

If it were a car that belonged to me,and with suspension damage: I would hope it would be declared a loss, total loss! When the suspension gets ****** up, it will never be the same again.

Why do Z's get *** ended? A lot of 350's got it from behind, sitting at a stop light.

If you (in Calif.)had gone to the hospital by ambulance, $3,000.00 more in insurance, in your favor! Especially getting hit from behind!
