370 one of the best road trip vehicles
I didn't see this posted yet but thought you'd all agree :)
Just took mine house hunting in DE/MD this past weekend. PERFECT weather made for an awesome driving weekend. Even though I had enough room for 2 duffel bags and laptop in the back, I put my GF in the passenger seat instead :) I couldn't agree more with the article. http://www.the370z.com/members/steve...9-roadtrip.jpg Full article on the cnn money website... |
i love driving to florida in the Z
|
Man I totally disagree. Seats are way uncomfortable to me on long hauls.
|
Mine is comfortable enough IMO (too rough for some people) but I'd rather be in my brother's LS400 if it's a long trip somewhere. More leg room, quieter, more storage, a back seat to lay down in, a front (passenger) seat that reclines. Just a real world situation.
I've still driven down to Austin a few times, and taken many 2hr-ish drives. Most of these were car-related so of course I'm in the Z. I'll even be driving to Nashville in a couple months if everything keeps going okay. |

I also disagree, I took mine 3 1/2 hours to my sister's graduation and I am seriously debating driving it long distances again.
Don't get me wrong I love my car and its not the most uncomfortable thing I've ever been in whatsoever. I'm fine with the seats, it's the stiff suspension through roadwork areas and what not that drove me crazy. We stopped at a Gas station halfway there and I was complaining about effect of the road work regarding my suspension. My dad responded(completely sarcastically) with "I know, I would of hated to have been driving that car when I was 23 years old......." HA |
Not my first choice out of my garage for a long trip unless it's all back roads. I find the seats very comfortable, don't know what that guy Bonanni is talking about, he must have a base Z :icon23:
|
Man, I am surprised. I was mainly on interstates and residential roads that were in good condition. The only annoying thing I hit was traffic coming home.
|
I drove to Nc and back, 7hours each way and it was damn comfortable. Not as comfortable as my TL but it was all good. Only my gf complained about the road noise which I liked
|
The problem with long drives is it's so damn fun to drive, I don't realize my butt is starting to hurt! :P
|
I'd like to know the height and weight on people commenting on the comfort. I'm a lanky 5'9, 140 pounds and have driven six hours at a time in my Z and had no issues.
|
5'10/200..maybe 198 on a good day..haha
|
6'2/185 I just deal with it, it's not terrible. It's better than the bench seat in my '71 c10 :p
I've gone on probably (3) 4-hour road trips, (1) 2-hour cruise, and it's very common for me to drive about 45mins-1hr. These are all 1-way times. |
I'm 5'9" about 145-150 pounds.
But like I said, I didn't have a problem with the seats. |

5'8, 165 lbs. The seat isn't the most uncomfortable thing I've ever sat in (Nismo seat, if there's any difference), it just isn't as comfy as my SUV after a 6 hour drive.
|
just had my first long trip in the z this past weekend down to SC which was a 10hr trip for me. I was very surprised how comfortable it was my arse didnt get tired until 7hrs deep. Surprisingly it was way more comfortable than my 2dr accord, both are leather seats, which became uncomfortable after about 4hrs. Im 5'9" 145lbs.

I did Dallas to Fredericksburg down 281 last weekend (Here) and from a comfort standpoint, it was just fine. At 6'4" - 250, I'm a big guy, but was pretty comfortable the whole way.
What was a big draw back was the road noise on some of the lesser highway pavements. I realize I can probably help solve this with some different tires (Hankook v12 evos seems to have a good rep for performance and ride balance) and sticking to more major highways, but it was really loud over some of that rougher pavement out in the country. With the wife in tow, it will be the road noise that is the limiting factor, not comfort. |

ha, I practically drove completely across the country fellas, from El Paso, TX, which is the furthest west you can get in Texas, to Columbus, OH, 1200 mile trip, drove straight through (16 hours) there and back to Oklahoma, covering over 2000 miles overall. The seats after about 8 hours start to get a bit uncomfortable, fixed with a few changes of position though, I love the knee pads, when i'm cruising on the highway, cruise control goes on, knees go up, chill mode begins. I'll agree though, its a fun little car to take on an extended trip, only part I hated was having to get all the dead bugs off the fascia after the drive!
|
Not trying to be funny but it sounds like the seats may be more comfortable for those of us on the smaller side.
|
Not IMO either, took it to Houston twice and LA once to show some family members and it took its toll on my back and butt and the road noise ouhhh wee. I let the window down as I would rather hear wind, I take the Max or my wifes G for longer trips now a days.

I don't consider this car as a GT.
Two things would have to change in my mind... 1. sound deadening 2. Taller final gear, my mates V8 muscle has a top gear that allows for under 2k rpm at 65mph... now that's cruising... I've done a couple of 2.5 hr drives in the car, on the wrong type of road seal it's horrible, on the smooth stuff the car's awesome. On Australian hwy's i don't think I could do 3hrs + in the car... For those with ultra smooth roads, I imagine you could drive for ever in this car. |

I'll find out Wednesday on my way to Zday! :D
|
I find the Z pretty comfy on long hauls. It's got plenty of space for a weekend away and is just good fun! Helps to stop and stretch your legs every now and then, but it's not bad!

I'm a much larger guy than most of you, weight-wise, and I'm very comfortable in the Z.
I drove it from Shrewsbury, PA to Baltimore (1.5 hr drive, so not a huge journey), and I loved every second of it. Other people have told me that it's a cramped interior, but I disagree. Of course, I grew up driving small sports cars. Compared to a Fiat Spider, Pontiac Fiero, or Mazda Miata, this thing is very spacious. That's one of the reasons I bought it over a new Miata. Some complain about its "girth", but that's what I love. Much shoulder room, high performance. |
i didnt have chance to drive my z for more than an hour, but i hope to see seat hold me tigher than it is now... i kinda have to hold steering wheels tight when i make a tight turn :) well, it is not bad seat though :p
|
I'm in the market for Z... and at 6'2" and 250, I'm getting a little worried! :-) Glad to see at least one other big guy say the seats are comfy.....
Going to go see koeppelNissan sometime soon to try out for myself. |

I bought a new Maxima in 1995 but sold it less than a year later because it made my back hurt so bad (had a back injury in 1983). I sat in a Z in the early 2000's and felt like it was going to be just as bad so I passed. This time when I went to the dealer I said "I want to sit in that car for at least 30 minutes" which I did and was surprised it was okay. I've done one 5 hour stint in the car and though I had to twist and turn a couple times it was for the most part just fine. I'm 5' 10" 165 lbs. |
My dad and I just did a 10 hour drive to Knoxville, TN...drove the dragon the next day...then drove back home the third. Our backs were KILLING us! Otherwise an awesome time...and I'd do it again in the Z
