Windows Rolling Down

Ok, this one is weird. Got up in the morning to go to work and both my windows were all the way down. No way did I forget to put them up the night before.
I thought maybe I leaned against the FOB and accidentally held down the open button, which will roll the windows down. I didn't think much of it, just blew it off as a fluke.

1 week later, now it's happened a 2nd time  good thing I took my dog out late last night, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed it. It's been raining here quite a bit, I would hate to awake to a car filled with water!!

Anyone have this problem? I read somewhere on a BMW form that the 135i or 335i has something similar.

Hmmm..very interesting. Now that you've mentioned 135i, here's a similar thread

Windows and sunroof open this morning ??? - BMW 1 Series Coupe Forum / 1 Series Convertible Forum (M1 / tii / 135i / 128i / Coupe / Cabrio / Hatchback) (BMW E82 E88 128i 130i 135i)

They are saying one MUST depress the key fob for a certain period of time in order to windows go down. Tomorrow morning, maybe do some self tests yourself? (i.e holding the open button for 5-10 secs, may be?)

Yes, it works when you hold the open button for about 3-5 seconds, I do keep the key in my pocket at all times, could I have leaned on it twice now  Funny thing is the doors were locked when the windows were down, but when I do it, the doors unlock. Maybe they are auto locking after a certain time. Ok, so I need to do some more research on this, if it is me, I need to have this feature turned off somehow, especially if it's happened twice in 1 week.

I hope that I may shed some light on this, if you push and hold your unlock button on your fob for 3-5 secs your windows will go down until you stop pushing the button. And yes it will unlock your car, but if you do not open your door, the car will automatically re-lock itself after a certain amount of time that I am not sure of but I think it's after 2 minutes or so... BTW my G35 does this so I'm guessing they added the same feature to the Z. It's nice to open your windows during a hot summer day to let out all the hot air prior to getting in.

My guess is your jeans are pushing the buttons. I have a blackberry that continually unlocks (two button combo to do so) in my pocket from be pressed as I sit down and stuff. Does not happen to me with dress slacks, just jeans and khakis.

Hi MC - Hopefully your problem is just an accidental pressing of the button, twice, for more than 3-5 seconds. ...However - and I don't want to be alarmist, because I'm aware of your clunkiness issue too - 350z's have had various problems over the years with dropping windows (although generally not all the way down like yours, and usually only one at a time). Often they needed a reset, which is something you can do yourself on a 350z.

Fingers crossed for you that it doesn't happen again.

...Just a thought - could it be that you're pressing 'unlock' by mistake, when you're intending to press 'lock'?

I would suggest unplugging the negative battery cable. But first roll down the windows, then unplug negative battery cable for a few minutes. Now connect negative battery cable back up. Now you have to "initialize" the windows. Get in car and close all doors, turn to "on". Roll up window and hold the button up for 3 seconds. Make sure it rolls up and down automatically. Do passenger window.

I dunno if its related and I hope not. On the Gs, if you hit the keyhole hard enough, the windows will roll down and someone can take anything, even open the door.....
One guy got his owners manual stolen.......stupid.....eh......all the Infiniti's were broken into in his work parking lot.

Mine has been fine, I will be sure to post up if the problem occurs.

I'm not going to leave the FOB in my pants anymore, that sounds funny :rofl2:
Ok, ok, I'm pulling the FOB out of my pants and putting it on the desk
Where is the Fobgina when you need it :icon17:

Crash 02-12-2009 03:38 AM

LOL! You'll just have to keep your fob in your wife's purse if you know what's good for you! :D

I mostly always lock the car via the comfort access button on the door, rarely lock with the FOB. Both times it has happened has been in my driveway, never at work or elsewhere, it's probably my dumb *** fault. I'm going to start taking the key out of my pocket from now on, hopefully that will solve it. :-)

I will definitely try this if it happens again, thanks for the info
