So, I've had my 370z Sports + Touring + NAV, 6MT for a month now, and I've been getting some pretty ridiculous MPG since. I've been driving 3/4 city and 1/4 Hwy and I always leave the A/C on.
For the first 500 miles, I've been shifting before 3000-3500 RPM. And the AVG MPG registered at 15.9. Then for the next 500 miles, same case, but I would shift in the range of 3000-4000 RPM and it's starting to pick up to 16.5 MPG. Finally, after broken in my car at 1200 miles, I would shift within the range of 3000-4500 RPM and the best I got was 17.4 MPG. I would turn off the A/C and it wouldn't make any difference with the MPG, I'd drive 1/2 Hwy and 1/2 city and it's still 17.4 MPG. My AVG speed is 26 mph. The MPG rated for this car is 18 city and 26 for hwy. To be honest, I was expecting this car to be in the middle of the 2 MPG. Somewhere around 20-22 MPG, but it seems like I'm not even close. Sure I understand, I'm driving a Manual transmission so I'm not gonna get as good of a fuel economy as an Automatic transmission considering they tweak these AT parameters optimize to be as fuel efficient as possible. Also, I have the A/C on all the time. But here's another comparison, my other car is a 2007 Lexus IS250 AT. It's rated at 21 city and 29 hwy. And I've been also leaving the A/C on always, similar amt of city and hwy driving, but I'd always get around 25 MPG (right between the two rated MPG. How's that the case? Is it really because AT is THAT efficient? Or is it because it's a Toyota/Lexus? Or is it the way I drive? And if it's the way I drive (and I consider myself driving really easy on the throttle most of the time), what's the best MPG are you guys getting on your 370z? |

is250=2.5 liter engine, 370z=3.70 liter engine. my altima coupe has a 2.5 liter engine, gets about 25 mpg on average as well. bigger engine, less MPG, all things being equal.

Then there's a debate about it being a sports car and the other one isn't. But both outputs similar HP. I'm just more interested in how well, if at best I'd ever be able to even get the MPG of over 20 for my car as it is rated at 26MPG for max on HWY only. I'm not being naive because I know those ratings aren't ever reachable because those tests are setup differently than our daily driving. But 15.9 MPG? 17.4 MPG? that's just not even close... My average is around 18.X but it's almost all city driving.
And because its all city driving, my average MPH is somewhere around 16.X... ![]() Pretty sure the A/C is affecting your MPG; not sure why it didn't go back up when you turned it off though. Are you doing the MPG calculations by the on-board computer or other means (i.e. tracking usage through gas receipts)?

It varies widely based on how I'm driving her, and I also have a 6-spd manual. When I test drove a Z and was really playing with it, cranking the engine and whatnot, I was getting 14mpg. In my first week with the one I bought, I drove it very gently but only around city neighborhoods. I was hitting roughly 17-18. I took it to PA this past weekend and was driving mostly in 6th gear and above 65 mph, and I averaged over 21mpg. I didn't vote in the poll above, because my answer is multiple.

yea, i would think the A/C at max affects me 0.5-1 MPG. Right now i'm tracking it with both the on dash computer and the one on the NAV. Sometimes it varies by ~0.4 MPG but right now it's locked on 17.4 MPG as the best.
I would also track it by the number of gallons since last fill up and the amt of miles I can drive before i reach to about the same point. It's usually around 320 miles max for 17 gallons. My buddies' 2007 Corvette get's 19 MPG and that's a V8 much bigger engine. More reason as to why I'm concerned. I should at least get 20 MPG. |

I'm still in break in on my 370Z and it's nice to know that I should expect an increase because I'm only getting around 24.5 city/freeway right now. Although that is acceptable for the performance bump from my 350Z to the 370Z. I'm expecting 30mpg plus. However, I squeeze the thottle during the work week and save the performance driving for the weekend. In my 2010 Prius I was getting 50.5mpg... I just couldn't handle driving a tin can for the next ???? years. I'd rather pay $100 more a month in gas than to drive that Prius day in day out. Maybe someday they'll make a Z car that performs and gets that type of mileage.... I'm down for that day and will trade my 370Z in on a second year model. ;-) Last edited by Mecinoid; 10-24-2011 at 04:41 PM. |

i get anywhere from 21-24, and im not the easiest driver by any stretch. i couldnt imagine what it'd take to get 18, ouch... i'd say im about 70/30 city/HW.
