Thanks Nissan....

For integrating the front grill into the bumper. A kid hit my car with his bicycle and put a nice crack in the grill so now my option is to either replace the bumper or just live with the crack. Luckily there really isn't any other damage to the bumper, but still...

What do you guys think I should do?

frost 05-06-2010 06:33 PM

A kid hit your car with his bike? Were you too far in the crosswalk or something?

wishihadnav 05-06-2010 06:35 PM

replace the bumper...btw your very fortunate the kid did not get injured and his parents decide to sue..

soCo 05-06-2010 06:38 PM

Umm, he could have been parked when a kid hit his car....

Thanks for the bold words...

My car was actually parked on the street I was sitting upstairs in my house when I saw him fly down my street like a bat out of hell and hit my car. By the time I made it downstairs an outside he was gone.

Ah, the ancient chinese "face to fist" technique. Although interesting to watch, it just never caught on like kung fu.

Zsteve 05-06-2010 07:28 PM

insurance for one, depending on your deductable and do you know who the kid is? And now you can experiment with cutting the crack out of the grill and changing the way the grill looks.

frost 05-06-2010 07:29 PM

Put a sticker over it. Not only will you not have to fix the crack, the sticker will add HP.

kannibul 05-06-2010 07:32 PM

Contact the kid's parents and see what they plan to do about it. If no remorse/recourse - you can sue them for damages in small claims court. New bumper will be about $250, then paint on top of that ($400?)

Or you can pay it out of pocket.

Be glad he didn't fall on your hood, headlights, or fenders....especially the headlights...those are insanely high and are available only as a sealed unit.

again no proof other than he said she said. Only course would be for the kid to admit it. Or play CSI on his bike.

Won't hurt to ask, some people are still decent.

You get a new car and you want it to stay new as long as possible. Don't let it slide. Get it fixed if you don't and you think oh I can live with this. Then a curb cracks your bumper and you don't fix it. A rock dings your hood. A car backs into your rear in a parkinglot. In three to five years and a lot of letting it slide your look at your Z and it's just an old car. No I beleive Z are meant to be driven and kept as new as possible. Get it fixed and love her like the lady she is.

I wish I knew who he was, by the time I got outside he was gone. I hopped in my car and went down quite a few streets loping for him and he still didn't turn up. Not much I can do now I guess.

nicknick 05-06-2010 09:22 PM

Unfortunate that it hapenned but chase it up and do not let the kid get away with it or the parents. People need to take responsibilty for their actions.

To the people who thought/assumed he ran up the kerb/sidewalk or something.....what are you smoking?

nolan1016 05-06-2010 09:25 PM

I would be blaming it on the kid more than nissan, but that's just me.

I was the only one who said anything about a curb. Read my post again and you will see what I was saying reffered to his question of should he fix it. My answer was yes, because if you don't other things will happen and don't get fixed. That's how people end up with a crap car in five years. what I'm saying is don't ever settle and live with damage it will just add up.

I would have jumped out the 2nd floor window and caught his *** trying to run away and beat the living **** out of him with his bike.

SoCal 370Z 05-07-2010 01:43 PM

The rigidity of the front bumper and grill is that it is one piece. I have to give Nissan kudos for designing the piece to save production and paint cost. The price of the nose is not that bad. Where are the pics of the damage?

tjlazer 05-07-2010 01:47 PM

Look at it as an opportunity to upgrade! If this happened to me I would get the Nismo bumper. :P

I'll throw up some pics tomorrow. The damage isn't horrible, but it is still noticeable and looks like it's one of those things where it might get worse over time.
