Default Car and Driver Follows Up On Crashed Nismo 370Z

The June issue of Car and Driver has a two page article about the follow up testing of the 370Z after their crash during the Lightning Lap a few months back.
They used different combinations of brake pads and brake fluids and tested braking results for fade, stopping distance, etc.
Basically they state that the stock brake pads are not strong enough for track use, and recommend upgrading pads and brake fluid for track use. They claim that Nissan has designed the stock pads for low noise and brake dust. Also according to the article, Nissan now offers upgraded brake pads for the sport package. They also recommend adding cooling ducts (?) to the wheel area, as they claim in an attempt to improve aerodynamics, Nissan did not allow sufficient cooling of the brakes.
There are numerous pictures of the different pads demonstrating the wear pattern.
I would scan the article but I am at work.

They are dancing around the fact that they neglected to check the pads for wear before they went on the track is my guess. So they've redesigned the front end for Nissan.

Anyone that is going to seriously track this car isn't going to worry about an extra $500 for pads. You eat pads at the track, along with tires and rotors. It's the cost of doing business.

When the 350Z had editions that came with the Brembo brakes (Track & Grand Touring edition) people complained about brake dust and pad life. Well, Nissan gave us a proper street pad this time around and now people are complaining about track ability.

People just need to make up their minds.

So you have to buy the "Sports package" to get upgraded brakes! They should come standard on all the Z models!
