Zs with VTEC????

so my brother was talking to a guy with a 350z and the guy told my brother that he would be out on me if we raced because he has headers, intake, a Nismo exhaust and when he punches it in 2nd gear the VTEC really kicks in!:roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2:

Need help Son?

1slow370 04-25-2010 01:04 AM

he probably was joking, i've explained to people more than a few times about how my 98 plymouth neon actually has a honda engine with V'tech that was codeveloped with mitsubishi and dodge under the dsm agreement which is a partenership between the three companies that produced the talon eclipse laser and integra(which looks different because it's the luxury model. And that has just enough real information that to the unknowing it can completly hide the massive amounts of BS. I even gave one guy a tour of my engine bay to show him the vtec solenoids(it was really the evap control solenoid, that or some piece for the cruise control). but then again never underestimate the power of ignorance the guy may really have been that dumb.

tonybui 04-25-2010 01:43 AM

It was clearly a joke, who doesn't know vtec is a Honda thing? Let alone a sport car owner like the 350z

On a slightly more serious note - You guys do realize that all VTEC is is variable valve timing right??? The Z does have variable valve timing (known as CVTC), and so in a sense does have VTEC, right along with several Porsche's, Toyota's, and the MIVEC from Mitsubishi.

That said, you don't feel it "kick in" the way that you would back in the Honda exclusive days simply because it's been so optimized that it's essentially seemless.

Vtec yo!

Honda style

Vegitto-kun 04-25-2010 07:16 PM

I honestly don't understand the VTEC kicked in thing.

I might be too young to understand

Then you're proably to young to be using the internet. I think its more due to the fact you're from Waffle-Land, no offence. At high RPMs V-Tec kicks in giving you Extreme Power to PwN Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, Lambos, F-22 Raptors and the Space Shuttle. Or so I've been told, correct me if I'm wrong.

Your just swapping camshaft profiles. A more fuel efficient one for low loads and a more aggressive one for high loads.

The point at which the car switches from low to high load cam profiles is when you feel VTEC kick in and the engine start producing more power.

z man 04-25-2010 11:46 PM

I was going to pass a car and as I accelerated and went into third gear, my Nissan Hemi really kicked in and I shot by him like nothing. It was kind of like the VTEC the other guy had in his Z. :driving:

Probably more so than you think, as hemi just means hemispherical heads, which was pioneered by dodge, which your car has :)
