Nissan North America response to...

This is the response of Nissan North America in FaceBook responded to one of my open threads. I know this has been cover millions of time, I just want you to see their response and motivate you guys to post your problems in thier FB Discusion Board.

Here goes:

"Nissan North America: The 370Z has an engine protection system that reduces peak engine speeds when the oil temperature exceeds recommended levels in order to protect against possible engine damage. Aggressive driving of the 370Z on a race track at sustained high engine speeds can cause increases in oil temperature and may activate this engine protection system. To avoid activation of this engine protection system and these reduced peak engine speeds, Nissan recommends an oil cooler be fitted to the 370Z before driving it on a race track. A Nissan Motorsports accessory oil cooler kit is available for customer purchase through authorized Nissan dealerships for race track use. The part number is 21300-SS370.

An oil cooler is not necessary for normal operation of the vehicle on public roads. The addition of an oil cooler would have raised the price of the car and potentially moved it out of the reach of some customers. Value has been a core principle of the Z car since the original 240Z and we choose to uphold this core principle by not adding additional costs that are unnecessary for normal use. For those individuals who choose to drive their vehicle on a race track, the oil cooler is available as an aftersales item.

The oil cooler is a Nissan Motorsports item and as such is sold without warranty, express or implied, unless expressly prohibited by law in which case the warranty provided is the minimum required by law. The installation of the Nissan Motorsports oil cooler does not, by itself, “void” the vehicle warranty. However any damage caused by the installation or use of this part is expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan New Vehicle Limited warranty."

reading this again makes me want to punch someone, preferably a Nissan exec...

Would an extra, I don't know... $500-$1000 for this option to be part of the sports pack put the car out of reach?

I responded that them that at least should be an option with dealer warranty.

Again I know this has been covered trillion of times. I just want people to post in FB under Nissan North America for those having issues and let them know. If they have answer my post in the Discussion Board they will do the same for those with issues.

After spending 30k+ for a sports car, a 1-2k dollar oil cooler option should be available.Now i find myself watching the oil temp gauge all the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but did'nt Bmw have the same situation with the 335 and later corrected it by retrofitting oil coolers to early models and adding to sport pkg in later years.

Yes they had a similar issue and most diligent owners have one installed. A lot of BMW owners start moding their cars because turbo boosted cars are so tempting. When track compititions got started many learned the hardway, alot of engines gave out to the heat even though their inturnals are forged.

No, it wouldn't put it out of my reach. But I'm glad I didn't have to pay it, because I don't need it. I drive my car pretty hard, never gotten above 225. Pointless add-on for many of us. If you don't have a problem spending the extra $500-$1000 for it, go do it already.

I don't want to void my warranty, in Aus I don't think you can get Nissan to install the part.

I find the 'additional cost to the consumer' argument to be garbage. If Nissan is making thousands of these cars, they can put together an oil cooler kit for probably $200 or less. There is no reason an oil cooler kit would be $1000, especially at Nissan's production volume. Simply, if they felt the car needed an oil cooler, it would have been a nominal increase in the overall price of the vehicle.

And it would have been foolish to add that to the price when 98% of the vehicles will never see the track and experience oil temp issues.
