Help! Is the Sync rev match really that important?

Hello folks, I am learning more about the Z and I am looking to buy the base model of the 370Z, but I also really want to buy the sports

Default Help! Is the Sync rev match really that important?

Hello folks,
I am learning more about the Z and I am looking to buy the base model of the 370Z, but I also really want to buy the sports package just because of the fact that it has the SRM option. Can some one tell me if the SRM is really that useful or not? Please update me with this information...Thanks

When I was getting ready to buy my Z, I thought to myself that I would never use the SyncroRev feature. I figured it was a nice gimmick...but I could blip my own throttle when downshifting, thank you very much.

After using it, I'm spoiled. It's so good that I don't see why I would ever turn it off. Get the sport package...you won't regret it.

If you're used to heel-toe-rev-matching on your own the SRM is a bit disturbing at first. You get used to it quickly, though and it becomes sort of the lazy way to downshift - at 6MT's version of automatic tranny.

I turn it off when I'm fun driving and on when I'm lazy.

I'm a manual guy through and through. I've always enjoyed blipping the throttle on downshifts myself, and I can rev-match smoothly, but I have to say, SRM does work very well. I've only had my Z a few days (40th anniversary...awesome car), but I've been using SRM more than I thought I would. I 'heel-and-toe' with my upper foot, not my heel. With SRM, I can keep my whole foot on the brake pedal when braking and downshifting.

Do you need SRM? No, but it does work as advertised, and it is useful.

get the sports package, the Rays wheels are really nice the 18's on the base don't do the Z justice

Can you blip a throttle? if the answer is yes, than no, SRM, while a nice creature comfort, is not the least bit necessary. I have a base and dont regret it one bit, the difference, $4,500 for me, got mine for 500 less than invoice, dealer wouldnt budge off the MSRP for the SP so I said fuck it. Not to mention the fact that VLSD's are worthless under hard driving conditions, the wheels would be immediately replaced, hate spoilers, brakes would be replaced, so it really wasnt a hard decision to make.

it's not THAT important if you know how to heel and toe, but it's very convenient.

heel/toe isnt for DD purposes anyways, unless you're that idiot that thinks street driving is the Tsukuba circuit and Tarzan is 2 cars ahead...

there is 2 ways to heel and toe. the street way is like a ball of foot for braking and blip with edge of foot. easy to control smaller blips for downshifting while braking lightly and to be in the right gear while in traffic is important if you're a car enthusiast. you can also accelerate from a hill with no e-brake with this technique. my dd is also MT and i use this technique all the time.

the other way is the traditional way using the actuall ball/toe of foot and heel. but this way requires you to stomp on the brakes which is a bit too much for street for the most part so i dont usually use this technique. especially with SRM i dont need to apply traditoinal heel and toe at all.

this is why SRM is convenient.

If you want to be fast then yes. If you want to have fun no.

I don't care how good you are with heel n toe the syncro rev is just too perfect and one less thing to worry about when breaking really hard before a turn. I recently did a very familiar canyon about 10 miles long with non stop turns and top speeds of less than 90 mph and the first half i went with syncro rev off and the other half on. I immediately noticed how much faster i was with SRM on. On the street and even in the canyons i have it off for fun but if i want to go 90% or above i will turn it on because it makes you a faster driver. Not to mention no more worrying about having the right type of shoes on for the heal n toe.
