Why the 400Z was killed
|
Ghosn you son of a bitch!
|
Hopefully, he will have an early retirement! That son of a bitch
|
so do you think that this is eluding to the Z's retirement at the end of the 370's cycle?
|
I wouldnt doubt for one second that Nissan is currently in development of a new 240/Silvia

Too harsh? |
say what you want about him, but he brought the entire world the GTR and saved the company. I haven't gotten my AW yet and read the article, but whatever he has done now, you have to balance it with what he has accomplished there.

There is always one guy who wants to diffuse the angry mob.

Nissan already has the Leaf coming soon, puts the GM Volt to shame all around including price. |

I din't think the Z is going to last too much pass a few year! The Japanese market lost 36% last year, so is not looking good.
Glad I had the privilege to owned a 300ZX, 350Z and now a 370Z which I will keep forever unless something dramatic happens. I'll be looking for a 240Z or 260Z here pretty soon. |

This is precisely why I got so into the Project Mothra build, and why I got my Roadster in the first place. The car business is changing. The Z is a dying breed. We should enjoy these things while we can. Cue "Red Barchetta" by Rush...
From the Project Mothra site: There will be a day when the growl of a finely tuned exhaust note isn't heard on American roads anymore. When cars become appliances. When getting from A to B is more important than hearing an engine scream. Or tires straining against physics to hold a line. Or wind being sliced and recoiling in protest. That day is not today. Mothra may be our last stand; the last hope for anyone who remembers what it's like to drive for the shear thrill of it. She will be a screaming adversary to the ordinary, relentlessly defending our right to carve up a little asphalt in the name of horsepower, handling and having fun. Strap in, America Your roads and tracks are about to become battlegrounds. |
One thing that's bad about the japanese sports car market in america. They like to tease us with great, but not there perfect examples of there autos. Let's keep it real. Japan never gives us the best versions of there sports cars. And when they do. They give us a heavier not as great version. they are as fickle with us as we are with them. They might do a 240sx? If its the same plan they were working on in 07-08. It won't do as well as other competitors coming out. A mazda rx7, toyota ft-86(along eith subie version) and mitsubishi is working on another awd 290hp eclipse that might possibly come out for 2012.(still not much word on that car. Its on the hush)
The Z has not been the kind of car to be in the middle of a line up of similar cars. When they pulled in the 90's. The 3000gt, eclipse awd, supra, rx7, and corvette were all in the game. Nissan jumped out and cancelled there cars. I'm not saying they can't compete with those cars cuz they can. But it seems like, when the Z is in a very competitive american market. Nissan pulls out. Are the japanese are still angry over WW2? Or is it renault(france) is still mad about freedom fries??? Lol. Either way... let by gones be by gones and stay in the game. 400z baby. |

Leave Ghost alone, he green-lighted the 350Z in the first place, and he knows his marketing. We'd all be driving Mustangs and used Caymans if not for Ghost.

Btw nice new av |
If they kill it, I'll be happy to say I owned a 370... And go back to driving Mustangs
|
Plan to keep my 370Z, so HOORAY ME if they do kill it; there will be that many less on the road; and you must admit, the what a great car to go out on!
That said, bring on the 240!! Or new RX7... that is what I would eye for my next toy... |

That said, bumpers, doors and hoods will all be going way up in price if it happens. |
|
probably mostly because guys in japan these days prefer playing on wii and date and rape virtual game girls than drive around sports cars like us guys do.

That kinky son of a bitch

this brings up an interesting discussion i had over the weekend with some friends. the 350z was constantly changing. although it remained virtually the same between 03 and 04, in 05 they introduced then optional "revup" 300hp engine (up from the standard DE's 287hp iirc) then in 07 they made every car come with the "HR" VQ which produced 306 hp. is the 370 going to be the same? obviously the original release with 332 hp then the follow up of the 350hp version in the nismo is one thing but it's not the standard unit in the base model like it was in the 07's (everything from the base model to the nismo got it). will nissan introduce a direct injection VQ into the 370 or wait till the next body style? a direct injection VQ could easily make upwards of 375hp or more putting it more in direct competition with the camaro and mustang who have just barely edged over the 400hp mark (granted with a LOT more weight than a Z). then again, this would edge the Z34 closer to the performance of the GTR which it needs to keep itself seperated from. it will be interesting to see how the 370 evolves over the course of it's life as a production vehicle. also i don't see the Z going down in displacement since every version of the Z has had a larger displacement compared to it's predecessor but i could see an only slight bump (maybe 3.8 or 3.9L) with a light presssure TT setup with direct injection as a "Z35" engine setup, at least optionally, as gov't CAFE standards get more and more strict while the EPA dictates car get closer and closer to zero emissions... yay government for tinkering with business in our "free market" *rolls eyes*
p.s. Z's have always been a good marketable money-maker for nissan, this whole "not profitable" notion seems a little strange to me. i could see them not making an R36 due to being "not profitable" since it's such a low production (and currently low selling) vehicle but the Z should be safe in it's continuation into the future. Mr. K wouldn't have it any other way... |
Since Pontiac went out of business, all aftermarket/upgrade parts for my car have double to tripled :(
I just want a Z before it dies! |
