However me, the one sitting on the air matress didnt get a ticket haha. Only the front is required for Michigan. I thought that was a awesome moment. I still rub it in.
Texas just recently required passengers in the rear seats to buckle up. I wonder if that includes hatch passengers.

Aside from the legality of it, if you get in any sort of remotely serious accident, they will be seriously hurt. PLUS if they were to die (god forbid) you'd probably be hit with some sort of criminally negligent homicide charge.

No, but a simple solution would be to mount a motorcycle-style sidecar near one of the rear wheels. The extra weight might make it a bit more tricky to get the car airborne and you can only get on two wheels on one side of the car, so you know, there's a give and take.

Another solution would be to mount one of those sexy X-Cargo units to the roof and modify it with one or two passenger seats. Now, that would be hawt and practical!

I think the sun is all that you are required to protect your passengers from if they are riding in your hatch. Also, it's a good thing you are having them lay down, because if not, then yes, that would be illegal.

You will get a ticket for not using seat-belt.

Geez ... It's a good thing most of you guys didn't grow up in the wide open '70s and '80s. You know I used to ride my bike to school -- without a helmet (gasp!). I preferred to ride in the back of my dad's pickup with the dog. I always crawled to the back of my mom's hatchback -- "the eerie bend" I called it (kidspeak for "the very end"). I'm surprised anyone born before 1985 is still alive ... what with all of our dangerous behaviors ...

Yup. It's even worse than people who drive a Lamborghini to go grocery shopping.

LOL! this is a joke right? Please do no do that! But if you do, I would assume its the same fine as riding without a seat belt or riding in the bed of a pick truck which is illegal in most states.

I guess that means you'd have to buy another car as backup....what a crazy idea.

You could also try a luggage rack for the roof. That's where I put my kids from time to time.

I agree with this lol. I was riding in the back of pickups when i was like 4. Sat in the front seat without a seat belt or child seat. Played with lawn darts, rode bikes with no helmets, climbed trees and jumped out of them. Shot bottle rockets at each other, pretty much everything that people cry about today. Americas gotten to soft lol.

Anyways, i say if its really not that far of a drive and its one thats not really patrolled by cops to just have them sit in each others laps. I've done it before, but i live in a different state and we only had to go about 4 blocks.
