Default Direct injection anybody? Come discuss!

I tried searching for a thread regarding direct injection to no avail, so I think I will create a discussion.

The new VQ37VHR is quite an advanced engine. Yet, I am still kind of wondering why Nissan didn't incorporate any direct injection into it. Sure, it would cost more, but I feel the benefits that come with direct injection are well worth it. Everybody knows that you get more power AND fuel economy at the same time, which is something that is on every performance car owner's mind.

Does anybody else wish this new engine had direct injection?

Surprised me too. Generally you can see 5% performance increase with a 2% mpg increase as well. Given that these systems add <$400 to modern engines, it is strange that it hasn't made the cut yet.

I was thinking it was odd as well. In fact you can see that I mentioned something to that effect when I first joined the board. I am crossing my fingers that they add it in a few years but with our luck it probably wont be added until the next generation cycle.

Finally got some people in this thread. I would also like to add that Chevrolet has a gen V V8 in the works that would incorporate direct injection.

Obviously this is delayed due to their economic situation, but I think this V8 would be one HELL of an engine. I can't wait to hear more about it.

Would love to see direct injection in the Z, with mileage regulations getting stricter maybe it wont be too long before we see it, and the nice power bump that comes with it.

Yeah, I'm very impressed with the DI motor in the Solstice. It's the only thing that's bad *** in that car. 2.0L motor putting over 130HP per liter down with a twin-scroll turbo! If Nissan made a 3.7L DI motor, it'd pwn all.
