why so long on new 2010 z
I have ordered new 2010 z on January 19th and dealer is telling me that i will get delivery ob week of May 17th. suppose to get vin # next week april 5th.
he has told be that it is taking so long b/c order is from Midwest and z is so popular at overseas . does any one have experiance on new orders and is this a BS . can i find out when the dealer actually order the car:hello: |
I ordered mine first week of March, they gave me an eta of June 10th :shakes head: They told me the wait is due to it being built in Japan, and the time it takes to ship it over.
|
Done the deal March 10,car was order but "not on the ground"(not built),shipped on March 28 an at sea ,I saw the vin# of my car, expected delivery of 40th Anni mid-april to Canada.
My dealer told me that some dealerships have to order a specific number of different models to even get a chance at a 370Z,I'm guessing a low sales dealer would have a hard time getting somethings, including Zs. |
In 2009 the lead time for an order was 3 months if you got in right away. Nissan only allows X number of custom orders per dealership and they are usually at a specific time of the month.
|
Why order? Could you not find the one you were looking for on any lot? Mine came from a dealer 200 miles away and I had it the day after I "ordered" it.
|
Good things come to those who wait ;).
|
My wait for my 2009 (factory order) was 93 days from order to delivery. Not too bad considering there were others last spring & summer who waited 120+ days.
FYI |
I got lucky and found a new 2009 two weeks ago with the exact options I wanted (Brilliant Silver w/ black, 6MT, touring, sport, nav) sitting on the lot at a local dealer. My wife is eligible for VPP so we took advantage of that as well. At first I was a little upset at not being able to locate a 2010, despite the very minor differences between the '10's and the '09's, but at the current rate the 2011 cars will be out before we see any 2010 Zs! I'm sure glad I didn't have to order the car and wait until the summer is halfway over before getting it.

heres why to my understanding: (maybe lou can chime in and correct me, im probably wrong)
dealers are in a long line to get a car built. some of them are in line to have a car built for months before someone buys the car, so they are already almost to the end of the line, thus not needing to wait the full 3 or so months for it to be built. Others get in line after you order, so you have a full 3 or so months to wait. some dealers will "Trade", if one dealer has a car about to be built but nobody purchased it yet, he can "trade" that spot so you can get your car built asap. possibly they'll trade it for another car your dealership has on the lot, or for the "almost next in line" car to be built of another type (i.e. maxima?) hope that makes sense haha, im tired! and FYI, I purchased my car June 1st 2009, received it September 11th 2009 |

We ordered ours may 15th of 09 and missed the cut off for an 09 by a couple of weeks. So just over seeeeeeeven months later, just 8 days before Xmas, we took delivery of a 2010. Let me tell you, that was a long wait, especially when the good weather passes by only to give way to rain and snow :shakes head:. Trust me the wait is worth it.

I know that mine was a trade as well. My dealer used up all of their allotted spaces so they did something with a phoenix dealer to get mine ordered. I got my VIN number 1.5 months into the ordeal. |
I ordered my 09 Z at the beginning of jan. 09 and she came in 1st week of april 09. Long wait but well worth it if you ask me.
|
I got mine last month after a lot of searching. It was one of two east of the Mississippi. I had a friend at Nissan corporate look into what was going on with availability and he was told they were ONLY making 40th anniversary models for a set period of time.
