do a little research

1967 mustang interior

2005-2009 mustang interior (first of the retro mustang modeled of 60's mustangs) ...Hint notice the dual big face gauges and dash line!

2010-2011+ a more modernized approach to the retro design (again there is a theme of the big dual gauges and the dashline which is all a bit more subtle also notice the center console area pretty similar shapes as well.

some eye opening numbers

The 2010 Mustang pulled .93 G's and slalomed at 69.3 MPH for Road and Track. I assume the 2011 will at least match these numbers. Not quite Z numbers but damn close far far better than other US manufactures. If you think you are gonna run away from a mustang in the corners, you're gonna be surpised. If you thing the 'stang can't handle, you're judging from the past, not what's selling now. Mustangs have quitely become much better overall sportscars whilst the Camaro and Challenger was getting all the "gee golly" press.

Rednek, I must have misread Matt's post. I didn't see similarities between the current S197's interior and that of the old Fox's, which is what I thought he was referring to. The similarities between the current S197 and the 60's era are obvious. I had an '06 GT.

So you agree with my coworkers when they felt the interior of the 2011 looked antiquated and ugly?

Oh ok gotcha! haha I was like you gotta either not know your cars or be blind to not see the resemblance! The fox body era or 79-93 mustangs have very very minor cues to the mustang look I have to admit I owned one and loved it and was stupid to sell it, but its an ugly car if you aren't a mustang lover.

Hahahaha. I thought your coworkers were comparing the current interior to the image of the Fox's interior in your post.

I agree, the 60's era styling is an obvious influence on the current style. However, I don't see any similarities between the Fox's and the current.

Its still a butt ugly interior and IMO exterior not matter if they are trying to go retro or what. If you want unique or semi unique then the GT isnt it.

Also you won't have all the overheating issues more than likely and probably not the brake lockup issues. Hmmm..
It would not be the same power levels with a supercharged 370z. You can put cbe, hfc, and intake, with maybe cobb and have the same power levels as the 2011 Mustang.

The supercharger would give you 520 bhp, the Mustand only has 415 bhp.

What? 370z with bolt-ons do not equal the 5.0 mustang..

I see literally 5 2010 Mustangs everytime I get on the road(which is generally a 10 minute drive because Naples is a small city). The 350z was a very common car, as with the Mustang, but the 370 on the other hand is a little more exclusive. Mustangs are generic, plain and simple. Most people buy a Mustang because:
A. It looks fast(which is debatable)
B. The average person thinks Mustangs are fast simply because of American Tradition
C. Most teenage kids ask their parents for a Mustang GT in high school, which also ties into B^^

Some people also pick the 370 (and all Z's) for the same reasons as well. But, I think a higher % of people who buy the Z's actually buy it because its an all around good performance car. I could have gotten more power and a faster car if I wanted to, but I wanted more for my money. Who cares if your "sports coupe" is fast in a straight line, but handles like an SUV in the twistys. Thats like having a hot wife that you can only look at, but not touch. The Z is an agile wide receiver, while the Mustang is a 450lb (arguably 500lb) linebacker.

That being said. The new 5.0 GT is very, very impressive. It looks the same as the 2010 GT (everyone who bought that got screwed), and it does have some eye popping numbers. The Brembo brake package is really great, as well with an aluminum block(finally, welcome to 2010 Ford). But the only Mustang that I would ever look at is the 2013 model, which is rumored to actually have an independent rear axle. This will actually make the Stang handle decently.

So to the OP here is the verdict:

Mustang for street(cocktail party talk - probably more like frat party talk)
Z for all around performance (Back/side street weapon - After Stillen S/C it will be faster than Stang anyways.)

You are right……in 2014, it’s the Mustang 50th year anniversary! Twin Turbo V6, IRS etc. It might then be time to trade in my Roadster!! Or Maybe not……

Report: Next Ford Mustang to go global, adopt IRS

I keep seeing so many people saying these cars can't handle but I wonder how many have actually driven them or raced against them. My girlfriend has the new Camaro SS and while heavy and not quite as precise as my Z it still handles very well. At auto-x the camaro does very well and gets times that you wouldn't expect it to. Same goes for the mustang. There are guys there running mustangs who are nipping at my heals in my Z. Gone are the days where muscle cars can't handle a turn. Sure, it may feel heavy and not as precise as the Z, but it doesn't mean it can't take the turn fast. I think most people are blind to the fact that this new mustang will not only out drag our beloved Z but it will also keep up with us in the corners with no problems.

I'll agree our Z fits like a glove when taking tight turns while these muscle cars feels a bit forced. There is going to definetly be that difference in feeling. In the end though numbers aren't going to change. Guarantee you later this year I'll have my hands full at auto-x with these 2011 stangs.

Ford has underestimated the power on the 5.0…….Inside Line did a dyno and it’s actually 395 WHP.

Bottom line is the Mustang is in a different league when it comes to power. There's no point in trying to compare because they will always have the advantage. Throw a supercharger on the Z, sure, it'll be faster. But what happens when you slap on on the Mustang?

Like someone else said, there's always going to be someone or some thing that's faster/better than you. Ultimately what it comes down to is what you like. Does the 370Z do it for you? If it does, you're golden.

Like with most things, haters are typically hating because they aren't secure with what they've got.
