Loose Headrests
 

There is a dealer in Columbia SC that has a 370Z Touring model and the headrest move alot. I went to check the car out and when I sat in the leather seat and put my head back on the headrest, I could feel the headrest rails pushing on the seat cushion area behind my shoulder blades. I thought this was really weird so I leaned back a little firmer and it felt like the rails were going to poke through.

I did not drive the car, but I will say I am overall impressed with the car. I owned a 2005 S2000 for almost 3 years, and I wish I still had it. Many of the complaints I read about the 370Z on this forum could also be said about the S2000. I do not see why so many complain, you have a $30k sports car that nothing close to it MSRP $$ can touch.

The headrests in the Z's that I have sat in prior to buying one never had that issue. Maybe it's a lemon? Anyway, I agree about having a great car for the money. Anyone that has any complaints should just look at another car, right?

If I am correct...the "looseness" your feeing is the active head restraint system...it is to help prevent "whiplash" in incase of an accident...

I haven't felt any such looseness in my Z.

Well, I have never experienced a whiplash system in action before. I just thought it was odd. The best way I can explain the scenario is take a foam drinking cup and put a lid on it, like you do with most fast food drinks. Then, instead of putting a straw in the hole in the lid, put a wooden pencil. Now, assuming the hole in the lid does not rip or tear, push the top part of the pencil away from you. You should then see the bottom part of the pencil moving towards you and trying to push through the foam cup. Now, granted the pencil would likely go through the foam cup if pressed hard enough, and I highly doubt the headrest in the seat would.

There is another Nissan dealership in my town, they actually have 2 new Z's. I will go by this dealership and check the seats in those out.

I agree, that just doesn't sound right.

Mine does that. You lean back n it supports your back. It does feel like the rails are poking through. Let me know how those other Z's are as far as headrests.

I thought I would mention, the car I sat in and noticed this had leather seats. So, I am not sure how the cloth seats react. I will let you know.

I feel the same thing on mine, and it does not have the touring package. i just thought it was a nissan thing. so hopefully its not a bad thing, but it is annoying to feel it.

I went by the other Nissan dealer in my town and the cloth seats felt the same to me. Have to say though, I still like the car.

Oh, the salesman told me the engine is the same in the GTR, but without the 2 turbos. Umm, ok yeah right.

I noticed this on my 370... but I also noticed it on the 08 350z they gave me to drive for a day till mine got there. Its not to bad imo unless you really push your head back and try for it.

It's called a "lumbar support". It supports the lower back. For me It's a great feature because it make it more comfortable. I sat in one and test drove it.
