is it just me or this thing doesn't activate right away when its on? for example... while not moving/stopped, then i turn it on.... but on the initial take off

SynchroRev Match
is it just me or this thing doesn't activate right away when its on?
for example... while not moving/stopped, then i turn it on.... but on the initial take off it doesn't work until i change gears the 2nd time around. Is this normal?
