I don't think its a matter of getting along with each other, its a matter of paying more for a vehicle thinking you're going to get better performance and finding out that might not be the case....

"Vehicle: 2009 Nissan Nismo 370Z [...] As tested Curb Weight (lb): 3,356" "Vehicle: 2009 Nissan 370Z [...] As tested Curb Weight (lb): 3,374 " The NISMO tested was lighter than the other (and for some reason timed as slower). I was sent another article that states the opposite (that the NISMO is faster), I think that the differences (+18 hp or 5%, +6 ft-lbs or 2%, wheels, suspension, tuning) more or less makes the driver and driving conditions responsible for different results Last edited by Auston; 03-14-2010 at 01:28 AM. |

Also note that the car being compared to the NISMO is the Touring (not the base
model). That is even more impressive because the Touring is 46 lbs heavier than the base model according to Nissan. I'm sure you saw these too: 370 Touring Vs 370 Nismo Comparo w/ Video, My Impressions of the NISMO 370Z VS Touring, Last edited by Auston; 03-14-2010 at 01:40 AM. |

The fact is your really paying a couple grand more for the word "Nismo" on your car. Is it a waste of money? Maybe. Do you have a really cool and rare car? Yes. It's like some chick I know who bought a Civic SI Mugen edition car. It has the same exact engine as the Si with a few aesthetic mods and a "Mugen" badge and they charge an arm and a leg... I think it was more than a base 370z with sport package! Dealers know cars like this will sell because they are "rare" and have a number on each one. But if your buying one strictly on a performance basis your better off doing the mods yourself. /endrant

After all was sad and done, the Mugen had an MSRP around 28k (I picked up my regular 2 door Si for 20,540 a couple of years earlier). I have seen maybe 2 or 3 Mugen Si's in my time, and I've heard that dealers were selling them for 35k+ because they knew they could find someone who thought it was worth it. To some people, spending money on a "limited edition" is worth it, to some its not. I was expecting a little more out of my nismo (compared to the regular Z) but I'm not complaining, just surprised. I went with the Nismo primarily because of the body (and the rarity I expected it would have). If I were in the market solely from the performance/money standpoint, I absolutely would have gone with a sport and made my own upgrades. |
