I don't know why you would be disappointed in the 135i just because it wasn't as fast as a group of purpose built two-seat sports cars and a 997 Porsche. The fact that it is even considered competition for two $60k+ Porsches is basically proof that it is a pretty good car.

I have wedged my 6'1" self in the back of the 135i and I can assure you that it was not a wonderful ride, but probably much more comfortable than the back seat of a 997 (or the trunk of a 370z!).

if you guys watch what positions they are in when they start you'll see which car is fastest and slowest on the track. the car with the slowest laptimes are up front and get progessively faster as you move back.

Good point on the Porsche's. I wasn't looking at it like that. I do like the 135i and am glad it's in the same competition class as the Z and Porsche, ect. I wish those turbos were on my Z. lol

You make a very good point here... But the 135 is supposed to be BMWs affordable sports coupe.. To compete with nissan and infiniti.. Yes, they did put it in a group of wonderful cars and to even compete with a porsche is a great thing.. but they have also put a lotus in with a gtr a porsche and group of lambos... So they arent really fair all the time.. Before i saw this i always thought the 135 to be a great performer, better than as shown here... Dont get me wrong its a great car.. but you sacrifice looks and space for the car and IMO it doesnt perform much better than the 3 series..

OK I'll spoil it for you.

The race ends with the Cayman S, then Z then Carrera, then the 135i then the S2k.
The only two laps in the 1:06's were the Z and the Carrera. Everything else was slow compared to the two.

The Z made up like a 5 second deficit on the Cayman S (which started first) in like 2 laps. Meaning it is much faster than the Cayman S. The Carrera is about .4 seconds a lap faster than the Z. THe 135i wasn't even close to the pace, sloppy to say the least. The 135i was like 2 seconds off the pace of the Z.

In other words the real result of the test was Carrera - Z - Cayman S - S2k - 135i.

The carrera was MUCH faster in the straights. In the twisties, the Z matched it move by move.

I can't give you the Torrent because its from an invite only site which is very strict...

Here's what I saw in another forum.

The 911 had a chance to pass the 370 at the final straight but ran out of room. I'd bet that in a longer race it would've eventually gotten by. The 135 was noticeably slow on the hairpins where IDE-san ran into some heavy understeering. At one or two of the turns he almost ran off the track as he went really really wide. If he kept his line with some suspension tweaks, the result would've been dramatically different.

They seemed dissappointed that the Z couldn't get a debut victory but was happy that the car was much improved over the Z33. At the end of the race the conclusion was that it doesn't matter if it's fast or slow, these sports cars are all extremely fun.

On the bright side, the 135i won every straight line test and battle amongst this group of cars (0-400m). It was about 4-6ft worse compared to the rest in their lane change braking test though.
