uncommanded intermittant horn & hazard activity
Hey guys,
On the ride home tonight several minutes after the "low fuel" indicator illuminated, there were two uncommanded instances of my hazards briefly flashing, and one horn sounding. The first was accelerating from a stop at an intersection when the light turned green, the second was at home a few minutes later, when backing into my garage when the horn also simultaneously sounded. All three events lasted only a second or two. This is the first time I've noticed this behavior presenting. The car was manufactured a year ago this month. I've owned it since new years day. She has about 6,500 miles. I was just completing a trip on the highway, about an hour. This car has one mod, a Ravelco which was installed the first week I got her. Recalling conversations with my installer, I believe the Ravelco opens critical circuits like fuel or ignition, not horn & hazard. (I can just imagine Nissan having kittens when they discover that mod. Warranty? Ha.). Would appreciate any suggestions or ideas you can offer. Hopefully this is a one-off deal tonight. Color me a pessimist; I doubt it. Of course, if behavior like this has already been covered in another post, my bad, would you please reply with a link. My initial searches didn't see it. It's an anti-theft device, a vehicle immobilizer. Without the Ravelco key/plug, you'd need a tow truck to steal the car. There are other threads here that mention it. The Ravelco web site has heaps more information. Just Google Ravelco.

I'm pretty sure they're going to point the finger at that, and charge you for the work if they can prove your Ravelco is the cause. Have you reset the ecu? i know that probably wont fix it. If not dealer visit maybe required for troubleshooting..

no ticket, no bypass
Unfortunately, the way it works, the Ravelco can't easily be bypassed, it would have to be uninstalled. Funny thing is though, it just closes some circuits, it doesn't have any electronics or components itself. It's just a sting of wires that run back to the socket where you connect the plug to close the loops.

So, maybe the plug is dirty or lose-fitting now? Maybe the wires in the connector are making intermittent contact?

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. The behavior hasn't presented again since those original days, and I'm a little suspicious of my habit of carrying two sets of keys on me--both key fobs. I wasn't able to reproduce anything while pressing or holding buttons or combinations with the car running, but I have suspicions of some buttons getting pressed in my pocket. Anyhow, hopefully this was a one-off fluke, and we'll never hear about it again.
You guys rock. Time to go out and take the long way to anywhere. |
