370z Complaints so far?
I'm on the verge of trading my 350z for a 370 but was wondering what little things about it bother current owners...like blind spots, no trunk button from inside, the new gauges, gas consumption or issues with the Navi. Are there any small things you wish would be on the car that you have discovered missing so far. All small things in my opinion but this being a first year run for the car do you think the 2010 models will reflect small changes. I know that nissan quietly kept revamping the 350z with things here and there.
Man I test drove the thing but I guess I'm torn about getting it on its first year run. Oh man I try not to run on emotions when at the dealership cuz if that was the case it would be in my driveway right now. You guys who bought it did you want the bragging rights to be driving the new Z or did you just say screw it 1st year or not I'm getting it? |
chicks don't even know what it is when i tell them im getting one

Here are my complaints:
No heated mirrors, WTF is that about? Where I live it's foggy most of the winter and this is a huge safety issue. No interior fuel release, not a big deal to most but here in Orygun we're too stupid to pump our own gas, so we hire people even dumber to do it for us. Now I have to get out of the car every time to open the fuel door. No interior trunk release. Why? Blind spots are terrible and dangerous. No back up camera. Hello this is a $40k car in the year 2009. The fuel gauge area/info center is dumb and looks out of place. When you have your high beams on the little blue light in the dash is very bright and distracting. And it does not dim with the rest of the panel. Why? No fog lights. It seems like there should be a bit more sound insulation in the rear near the tires as you get a lot of road noise and other noises from debris in the wheel wells. These are mostly minor gripes. The car is fantastic to look at and drive. The navi is great as well. The Bose system is just fine for me. I buy new cars every 2 years or so, so I've had many, and I've never had one that was perfect, there were always a few things that drove me crazy, and this car is no exception. |
Thx for the info!
Yeah, BIG bummer about the lack of back-up cam? Are the blind spots TERRIBLE. :( Any idea how many watts of power the Bose has? |
I posted this elsewhere, have about 1200 miles on the car so far:tup:
-MIRRORS- It was very dewy this morning and I had to pull over and wipe off the passenger side mirror, without that you can forget about lane changes. They deffinitely need heated mirrors, next time I'll know to check and see if I need to wipe them off before starting my drive. Also very important, I think they should have lowered the mirrors an inch or or so, they are in direct line with your vision and block out people walking in cross walks parking lots etc. A slightly lower mirror would have solved this problem. you have to be careful while turning, look around and over them. -BLINDSPOTS- I'm getting use to the blind spots, at first I was very wimpy at changing lanes, etc. -TELESCOPING STEERING WHEEL- Yes, should have one -REAR TIRE NOISE- Its amazing at how little pebbles and rocks can make so much noise when hitting the inside of the fender wells, those tires pick up every little thing!!! I looked in the fender well and there is a plastic insert that seams to be the culprit. I'm going to try and take off and coat wih some rubber or plasti-kote, this should help soften the impact and eliminate the noise. I can't beleive they didn't catch this in pre-production vehicles. UPDATE: Looking into an sound deadener coating or bedliner spray to coat the fenderwells. -PHONE NOISE- Have you ever had your cell phone next too some computer speakers and all of a sudden it starts spitting out a bunch of static and chatter, I'm sure your familiar with the sound. Well it does it in the 370Z!! and it is very annoying!! Anyone else experiencing this???, I have a first gen Iphone. -CLUTCH CLUNK- When going from first to second gear, if I haven't got the revs up to around 3k or above, when I depress the clutch to go to second it makes a very distinctive clunk sound. It only does it from first to second, and only if the rpms are low. I can also get it to surface if I'm in first going slowly in a parking lot and depress the clutch, I'll here it then too. Anyone else experiencing this???? It's very grabby, seams like it takes a lot of finess, this is my 5th or 6th manual car, so it's not like I don't know how to drive one. I'm attributing it to high strength pressure plate, and probably needing to break in a bit. Not sure if I should take it back to the dealer and mention something though. UPDATE: Taking it into the dealer to have it looked at on Wednesday. That's about it for now, other then that, it's a great little car, lots of fun to drive. Braden |
at&t phones will do that to any stereo if placed close enough... ^ also.. the non telescoping steering wheel seems to bother me most as of now..

This is also a good thread though, thanks folks for posting your thoughts.

I forgot about the non tilt/telescoping steering wheel. I am able to find a comfortable position so it's not that big a deal. IMO the "touring" model should have this feature standard.
I do not have any clutch noise or phone problems. I do have a rattle that seems to come from the rear cross brace. |
My only complaints are the blindspots, lack of digital speedometer, the absence of the tire pressure monitoring system which previously gave you a read out of the pressure in the front and rear wheels. Other than that I am a satisfied customer.

I read the wheel wells are paper thin (Car&driver), this may help!

The wheel well thing is annoying as hell, but can only be heard if you are cursing around at 10-15mph with the radio low. It is annoying though. I am thinking about DynaMating the wheel wells or soemthing around the lines.
Blind spots suck, but the mirrors more than make up for it, WHY is there no rear windshield wiper? The 350 had one. Any time a take a turn decently i hear the passenger seat click into a position, maybe its loose, maybe something underneath it, hits the rails, I don't know, but it sucks. On board computer is alright, but a pain to activate, the buttons are far behind the steering wheel. The control to change stations, is backwards, you press up for it to shift from preselect 1 to 2, and up again from 2-3. I guess its a matter of how you see numbers in your head, but its annoying. I HAVE PLASTIC PEDALS<<< that annoys me the most. There is a 12V port in the arm rest thing, but you need to remove the little plastic organizer shelf, then once you connect soemthing you cannot put the shelf back in. whats the point of that? The other 12V port is under the glove box, just placed there. yeah not molded into the car, it is just placed there "oh snap we forgot another 12v port, ah, bob just glue it under the glove box, who cars" Bah annoying. and well everything everyone else said I feel too. an also, if you move the little lever on the right hand side, the one that controls the windshield wipers, if you move it down, you end up seeing this big hole. I guess fit and finnish was not so important, i mean 40k who cars right. other than that great car, coming from a MINI which I still believe is the funnest car on the planet, This thing puts a smile on my face every single second. edit: Coming out of the closet to soon on a forum. |
:icon17: couldn't resist...sorry:rolleyes:

ahh, the importance of the letter 't'

Educ8r, the TPMS comes standard with the 370Z. At least that was what I noticed in the specs. Can anyone elaborate?

^^^ Damn that sucks.

No aluminum pedals on base models, even with the sports package. Oh but it does have aluminum footrest pedal. Although it looks like cr*p because the rest are black rubber.$33k for this car, really, unbelievable Nissan! Someone got CHEAP and started cutting corners. Again.....CHEAP! Even honda civics Si's, maybe even those scion's and other cars that cost alot less come with aluminum pedals. I thought it would of been standard for a "sport car" and others like it. I added the factory aluminum pedals to my 350z base model. I laughed installing them. They were the same thing as the rubber ones, but had aluminum on top of the rubber. Now the gas pedal was actually fully aluminum though. I don't think it would cost Nissan much money to just add these to every 370Z. Sorry for the rant; it just bothers me.
Also, yes the lack of interior manual gas and trunk release button or latch is a little strange. The car is great, really is. Love it more and more every day. But some of the little simple things it is lacking just make me shake my head. It wouldn't make me not buy the car though. =o~ Sorry forgot about one thing. No telescoping steering wheel is a little disappointing also. Even the lowest of the Altima's have tilt AND telescoping steering wheel. Car is comfy without it, but it would of been a nice touch. |
You can hear a lot of road noise.

it says...that aluminum pedals are standard for both models on nissan's site...
is that incorrect information? |

i guess im on the way to complaining then. |

It's there for a good reason. I use it in the M35 all the time. |
I have no a/V on mine, just the 12v port. does the ipod adapter come as an option on the touring?
|
The iPod interface is only there if you got the Navi option. But either way, that 12V port is always in there. It's not a bad place to put your phone if you have your bluetooth setup.

I'm really trying to hold out until the 2010 model arrives, and threads like this help. I'd like to think they will fix at least some of these problems. Considering so many mags complained about the fuel gauge, I peg that for something that will be changed.

The 370Z does have fog lights, they're found integrated in the headlight assembly (like on G sedans and other cars). |
I can't wait that long. I'd rather buy a new one now and trade it in when the new models come out. I need a new car ASAP! So this is what I'm doing!

The crappy economy lowering the amount of my trade helps the wait. ;]

I only back into my own garage, so it shouldnt be too much of a concern. Maybe I would just hang a tennis ball like my grandparents.

Yeah, I parallel park a lot here in Los Angeles... It's pretty much the only way to get parking anywhere. Not to mention that I'm in a car club, so we cruise everywhere and we HAVE to parallel park in some CRAMPED placed.
|
We aren't big into the parallel parking thing here. I can't remember the last time I had to do it.
|
WOW! Lucky. I do it every day I drive.
|
im coming from a G37... and honestly the backup camera is only useful to get an idea of your surroundings.. its very hard to judge distance with and doesnt help you really parallel park or back into spots.. So with that being said.. is it really that big of a deal? IMO no.. is it nifty... yes.. if it were available would i order it..? sure why not
