I like the fact that there is no need to put it in to MT mode to use to paddles just hit it and go shifting up or down.

This is something I just learned about 2 weeks ago, reading on this forum. I like that too!

I assume I'm downshifting too soon (RPMS too high) but I try to watch that and it still does it. So now I just shift up and tend to forget about downshifting manually and just let the car do it for me. I'm getting old.

its odd.

if I want to downshift without it going ROAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR

I have to slow down untill 1600-1800 rpms BUT

if I am too slow it automatically downshifts and then it does a double downshift so from 3rd to 1st

which is very ROAR.

Yes..I get that double downshift a LOT..which is why I think I'm just not very talented at "automatic" manual shifting LOL! I did better in the 6MT! ;)

When I do it, I use the paddles, Its also the only time both hands are on the wheel.

if i had the AT, i would use the paddles for downshifting while going straight, but use the shifter if i have to turn.

Thanks! i'd hate to know what your doing with the right hand while it's in D.. :bowrofl::roflpuke2:

Stick. Paddles I hardly ever use.

nuTinmuch 03-09-2010 04:56 PM

I like the paddles. Took a while to get used to them, but they are pretty damn fun.

For whatever reason I never drive with both hands on my wheel...even though I have tried. It seems like even when I'm just cruising around in Automatic, I have one hand on that gear shifter thing...I guess its a throwback to my stick shift days or maybe I "think" it makes me look faster when I'm driving it :)

I don't have the AT but I would probably use the paddles. I mostly drive with both hands on the wheel, I feel more connected that way :icon17:. And I pretend everyday is a circuit race so I sit and drive like I'm racing :driving: (without speeding of course).

Unlike everyone else, I like the paddles. It's a different feeling, and it seems quicker than the shifter. But I alternate them both. I mainly drive in D tho

Vegitto-kun 03-09-2010 05:32 PM

you know it would be nice if we could see the gear numbers while in D like the GT-R does

I think the question I have for you is, You're european and drive an auto? your friends must have a field day with you.

Diocletian 03-09-2010 06:44 PM

ok Im probably weird but I carried this over from my 2008 GTI that had DSG. Gears 1, 3, 5, and 7 I shift with the paddles. Gears 2, 4, and 6 I shift with the stick. When at rest or cruising my hand rests on the shift knob. :)

Red370 03-09-2010 06:51 PM

now thats just confusing bud.
