Fog Replacement
Anyone has plans on making the rear fog functional? I will.
|
I plan on it. JDM.
|
Yes, I want to. Either that or I'll get rid of it with a new bumper replacement.
|
JDM here too. Depending on how it looks, I will place my university's logo on it so when I hit the brakes, you'll see a big "A." Roll tide!
|
I don't think that fog light turns on with the brakes. I'm pretty sure it's a constant on when there's fog.
|
^^^^ Gotcha! Thanks.
|
yeah it would be great to have that thing functional.on the E90 you just have to buy the switch for the euro versions to get the rear for working or DIY version. i hope you just need to get the JDM switch or some DIY to get this one working.http://animepisodes.info/images/1a0a...8a05200e32.jpg

I have seen some Nissan parts/repair manuals and it looks to me as if the parts needed (that aren't already there) could be ordered (although an ordering dealer may well have to go through a Canadian dealer to actually get them).
I fully expect some aftermarket company (or several) to come up with some easy kits to use the fog light area...I could see it being an optional back-up light or a light that does come on with the breaks and/or turn signals or perhaps a continuous-on that has a logo in it (like a "Z" or whatever one wanted there). There seems to be pretty universal agreement that the area needs to be used in some way!!! |
I'll have to add an HPI Nitro-star .21 motor in there and use the fog hole as the exhaust! :D (+1 HP!) J/K
Nah, I will just order the parts from CA. |
I was under my car earlier today and their is a wiring harness that goes to the fog light  I couldn't see if there was a bulb in there or not. I'll have to do a more thorough inspection this next weekend. So it may just be purchasing the switch to activate it. ;)

I doubt that the actual electrical outlet/bulb housing is there - that would probably have to be purchased.
Of course, you'll either need a wiring diagram for the vehicle or do a lot of "hunting" for the wire's termination in the cab. I wonder if the "switch" for the rear fog is designed to be on the stalk (with the headlights) or if it's a stand alone rocker switch on the dash somewhere??? |
Why not think outside the box and do something a little classy? For example, I'm thinking those plastic trailer hitch testicles would mount there perfectly.

To each his own! :icon14:

I can't believe I didn't even receive some big-time powerful rep points for my suggestion..........you people suck!:(

Somewhere on this board (or the "other" one) there is a PDF of the entire owners manual (not sure if USDM or otherwise) that clearly talks about using the foglamp "on" selector found on the turn signal/headlight stalk.
Since the USDM cars do not have this stalk (and thus the on/off selector), it will have to be bought if wanting the OEM look. On my current Nissan, I have fogs and have a stalk that allows me to selct fogs on/off. I'd imagine this is how the rear fog wold also work. I could see some type of auto on/off on the Infinity's, but to have them add the auto system on the Nissan brand just seems out of character. |
Interesting... The auto-sensor costs 15cents. LOL
|
The non-US models have the switch on the stalk. Anyway, I'd like to install a high-intensity strobe light in that space. That way, I could blast a-holes who tailgate. Want to ride my a$$? Here, have a fistful of blinding light. Enjoy driving off the road into a tree. Okay, that sounds a little extreme, doesn't it? lol

Still...it's nice to think about isn't it. :) |

Ok, it was bugging me, so I crawled under the car at 1am with a flashlight.
This picture was taken with an iphone cam, so it's not very good, but you can clearly see the wiring harness going to the enclosure box, and from what I can tell in the dark, it looks like there is a bulb of some type in it. So it's not just a lens with nothing behind it, it appears to be complete. Now we just have to figure out how to get it to turn on  Rep points please for crawling under the car at 1am in the dark :-) Braden |
OK. So maybe it's a missing relay?
+1 Rep for the crawl! |

So, can you tell us exactly what is covering the "true" red lens? On the Z's I've seen, it is solid black (like there's a coverplate on it) instead of the bright/reflective red that is shown in all the JDM/Euro pics. |

The next interesting question is if just the lens cover can be replaced or if the whole unit has to be swapped. I feel like I'm problem solving this for the aftermarket!! Someone send me some royalties when you start making kits for this!!!! :tiphat: |
Ok... So my thoughts are that the entire system is there without the on/off switch. So wiring an on/off switch shouldn't be an issue. I bet even the relay is there.
|
If that's true (and it may well be); the more difficult part will probably be finding the wiring termination point (I would imagine it's somewhere in the steering column or it could even be up through the existing stalk on the column if that's where it would generally be turned on).
I would also think that the bulb will have to be purchased but who knows...until on of us actually takes the unit apart we won't know! :) |
