question about push button start...

sorry if this is a dumb question, but i just bought my Z last night and the manual wasn't really clear on this. when you go to start the car (6MT) and push the button to "ON", do you have to hold the start button while the engine is turning over? or can you just push the button again and release, and the car will catch automatically? on my wife's '09 escape, to start the car you just turn the key over really quick and release and it starts itself.

Push and release.

Push and release button, but keep clutch fully depressed until engine turns over completely....otherwise your z may not start.

gotcha, thanks...

Sorry thread hi-jack, but what happen if you accidently hit the button while driving? Does it turn off and youre in trouble? Not sure if this has happen to anyone yet

Vegitto-kun 03-03-2010 07:32 AM

never tested it but why would you be in trouble?

just turn the car on again

That's Nissan's fix for Unintended Acceleration.

The brake has to be pressed in order for it to shut down while moving, so as long as it isnt, you're fine.

Actually, mine performs a bit differently, as does the Z of a friend of mine... Mine will not turn off if the car is rolling unless I hold it down for three to five seconds. It won't turn off with a "tap" until the car has slowed down and is barely rolling. For example, when I pull into the garage and start to push it to turn off, it won't until the car is barely creeping to a stop. Obviously, I have a 6MT. And it does this without the brake pedal being pressed.

On an open road at about 15MPH I tested it and it will not turn off unless I hold the button longer.

My friend's does the same thing and won't shut off with a quick press until she's "creeping". So, I turn mine off and sing, "So I creep, yeah...just keep it on the down low..." and then it shuts off. Sorry, couldn't resist :ughdance:

Just my two cents...

Same here - hold the Start button for ~5 seconds while moving and the car will shut off

terrycs 03-08-2010 11:18 PM

Nissan got it covered ... instead of just holding it down, the car will also shut down while driving if the button is pressed 3 times rapidly.
