RPM Blip on Upshift?
Hey Guys,
Sorry if there is already a thread about this, but I searched the forums and couldn't find anything related to this... So I was driving home from work today with the SRM turned off, accelerated pretty hard up to 4k in 2nd gear (still in the break-in period, so I wanted to have a little fun while staying within break-in guidelines), let off the gas and pushed in the clutch quickly and the RPMs blipped up to 4.5K - 4.7K before I shifted into 3rd. I thought maybe I had accidentally left my foot on the gas, but tried it again and the same thing happened. Has anyone else experienced this?

I know there's a very small delay in the drive-by-wire (or whatever) system, so maybe it's just not "seeing" you lift off as early as you think.

Did they actually blip or did they just continue rising after you pressed the clutch? The flywheel in these cars is rather heavy so it's not uncommon for the revs to rise a bit between shifts because of the flywheel's momentum.

For me it's all to do with the delay once I lift off the accelerator. My clutch foot is too fast for the car

The blip happens rarely during upshift on the AT transmission as well. I think there's a previous thread on this subject already...

Remember you only need maybe 35% pedal depression to shift. I find myself being old school and flooring it from time to time.

That's intentional AFAIK. Kind of like SRM but for the AT.

I was thinking about it last night, and I think you are right Steve. It's not really a blip, but more of a gradual increase in RPMs. I also noticed that it was directly related to pushing in the clutch, so it sounds like it may just be the flywheel momentum.

Yeah, I'm sure that's it. There's also a very slight delay with the electronic throttle (some people notice it, some don't) that could be contributing to that feeling. All in all its normal, and can be solved with a lightweight flywheel.
