From our blog,
2003 Nonrevup 350Z: 215whp
2006 Revup 350z: 234whp
2009 VQ35HR 370Z: 258whp

Those 370 numbers are disappointing and I am talking in the relative sense, not the absolute sense.

Where are your numbers for an HR engine (07-08)?

If I remember right, my stock 07 HR 6mt put down 20 HP more than my wife's modded 06 rev-up 6mt - same dyno, same day.

So bottom line here is that the 370 makes only 4 more HP than the HR 350?

Of course your dynos are not done on the same day, so maybe that's it. Maybe the 370 has more drivetrain loss.. ??

Nice dyno vid. you can hear the Nissan DNA. It goes back a loooong way YouTube - 1988 Nissan 300ZX SS on the dyno

There are numerous dynos showing the Z putting down almost 290whp, that is consistant to what the crank 332hp is putting out. If the Z was a 332hp car that only put down 250whp then the Z would 80+ hp to drivetrain loss and that is not the reality.

What makes this dyno pointless? People keep on forgetting the main reason behind a dyno is for tuning purposes. Numbers are just numbers. What really matters is how those numbers change within the same dyno during any modifications.

A dyno is only pointless if you're just looking for a "number".

If the 370Z read 310 whp in a dynapack, then read 240 in a mustang dyno, does that make any difference?

see the thing is this dyno dynamics and mustang dyno's are 'loaded' dyno
they simulate the weight of having to move the car also!
so when you on a dyno jet and get your 290whp, thats just how much you can make to the wheels
when you make that power on a loaded dyno thats the power you actually HAVE moving the car.
also they are alot better for tuning because they simulate actual load on the motor and drivetrain better, providing more accurate tuning

One of the better dynos out there for tuning is a dynapack, which just happens to read higher than most dyno's out there.

One of the many reasons why dynapacks are great is because they are very consistent. I have never seen that consistency from any other dyno. Not only that, but the fact that they read off of the hubs really shows how specifics mods affected your cars performance without having other variables such as a change in rotational mass (ie. just happened to get a new set of wheels that are heavier) skewing the effects of engine modifications.

I'm not saying other dynos aren't good for tuning but its great to avoid all those other variables when someone is tuning a car.

Speaking in general and not directing this to anyone... people these days care too much about "numbers", specifically peak numbers, without really understanding what they're really looking at.

why was this test done in 4th gear instead of 5th?

the Z34 should be able to go to 7300rpms at 155mph, 200rpms short of redline.

^^^ Good question. 5th is 1:1.

I could not agree more. If you are really concerned about high dyno queen numbers, go find a high reading dyno. For tuning, as long as you have a baseline and a final number, most any dyno will do the job. How the numbers change before and after modifications on the same dyno is all that matters.

On most 6-speed cars, the difference in numbers between 4th and 5th is negligible, if any. We did test in 5th as compared to 4th on one pull and it was exactly identical. Other cars, not just Nissans, have shown the same thing for us. Using 4th as opposed to 5th goes a little quicker and puts a bit less stress on the engine.

For what it's worth, we were able to achieve similar results yesterday, proving the DD's consistency. We decided to test XXX Racing Fuel's 138 octane oxygenated blend. It was good for a 14whp gain through much of the powerband. Not bad for just adding some gas!

wow, that's pretty impressive! where can I find out more info on the XXX race gas that you used?

Crash 01-27-2009 03:13 PM

Interesting. I think over here (without going to a boat-yard) we can only get up to 105 octane. But either way, not bad.

i didnt speak on dynapacks as i have no experience with them

give me a break im only 19 :icon14:

Now I have a headache. I got mine tuned on a Dyno Dynamics after throwing on K&Ns and Stillen Exhausts, I ended up with 286.3whp... How much is that in HP if stock runs at 258whp?

Wow, this thread is old...

What was "tuned" on the dyno? Did you baseline it before the mods?

Slipp3ryCHING 10-31-2011 10:20 PM

ECU was tuned
