Crank Position Sensor Heat Sheild Feeler???????

So I hear the 370s have a problem melting sensors so I made this heat sheild before it happened to us, and I was wondering if this is something any of you who drive your car hard would be intrested in. It would be a exchange basis you could mail it to me and I will mail it back. This is what it looks like.

Its all made out of stainless. Nothing to hard to remove or install. Its held on with one 10mm bolt, 75.00 and your core shiped. Its cheeper then a sensor or harness! Let me know who is intrested.

This is on my car and we will be putting it through the paces at the track weekend of march 6-7 to demonstrate the benefits... I have some temp indicator paint and strips we will use to test temp at sensor

Only as a pattern for a shift knob I made my buddy. You get serious charges for punching people with **** like that.

Travis.. is that what you used the AP Racing rotor paint for?? :rofl2:

Josh@STILLEN 02-23-2010 10:03 PM

Actually that looks like a pretty trick setup.. and should solve the 'problem' quite effectively..

haha, not yet... but I do plan to use it for both on mar 6/7... pretty useful stuff!

All, in case it is not clear what "problem" we are trying to solve... one of our members recently had their crankshaft position sensor completely melt as a result of a moderate track outing... it costs about $70 to replace the sensor and you are guaranteed to have downtime if it melts... for those that track their Z, you either need to create some heat shielding or keep spares of the part... this heat shield should solve the problem

Pic... it is part # 23731T (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - 370Z (Z34) 2009+ :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com)

I'm interested. I think the sensor will probably survive the average 20m HPDE session, but long sessions with sustained high-rpms will definitely build a lot of heat in that area.

Unfortunately I'm not sure it is going to be worth becoming a forum sponsor to do this one small item, of which you will probably only sell a dozen. Not that I wouldn't want to see AK pick up a few more sponsors to help pay the bills, but it just doesn't seem cost effective. If you could add a few more "trick" items to your line card it might be worth it, otherwise your probably better off listing them on eBay and letting people find you.

I have a few more up my sleve but I only do race cars and not street, so I doubt anyone wants a chromoly steering shaft, or scoops to replace your read windows.

+1 I don't think enough people actually track their car enough, or at all, for it to make it worth wild to become a forum sponsor.

Is this a 'problem' for everyone with stock 370s or just an issue if you put in headers, HFCs, etc?

RCZ 03-02-2010 08:48 AM

I'm interested price pending.

kenchan 03-02-2010 03:43 PM
