Well it's one thing when you post and pretty much make it known that it was your fault. But when you blame your friend and a random dog or your mom, well, it just makes you look like an idiot! The big thing, though, is that this crap is happening on the street. People with no concept for vehicle dynamics are out trying to be drift stars on the street, putting themselves and others in danger, and generally making our community look bad. If you do it on the track... it sucks, but at least you did it on the right place. If you do it on the street...

Something I'm now appreciating is how people suddenly claim they understand vehicle dynamics. I've done three track days last year. I think I pushed the car pretty well and I definitely have a better feel for what it can do. Do I think that I now have the 'power' to turn off VDC with narry a second thought?. F#ck NO!
Having done some track days, I wouldn't say that track days alone warrant the confidence of turning off VDC all the time and claiming mastery of vehicle dynamics. I'd have to have done a bunch of autocross, some drift schools, and perhaps some performance winter driving classes to even consider calling myself proficient with vehicle dynamics.

Yeah. My guess is around the time the guys' car gets repaired we're going to see a new member join up with a new PW Nismo!

The scariest thing is that there are people out there who just flat out assume that their car will corner on rails. They can't even begin to imagine how a car would react to wheel spin on corner exit. They probably don't even know what wheel spin is!!!
And they usually end up stuffing themselves into a tree or a guardrail somewhere because they thought they could take a corner at 50mph that would have been edgy at 35! Or because they thought they could Tokyo Drift it around a corner... I have to say that some of the questions that turn up on this forum really scare me sometimes... just knowing that I am sharing the road with people that don't even have a clue...

It will try to keep you from killing yourself but it's not a guarantee.

I drive mostly with VDC off on dry sunny days because I consider myself an experienced enough driver to handle it. Although, it is ALWAYS on when the roads are slick or it's raining. VDC works as intended. If it senses any slippage it will kick in and slow down the rear wheels. Say if your pulling onto a major road from a side street and you give it a little gas and the rear end kicks out the VDC will automatically kick in and kill your rear wheel spin which essentially straightens you out. I find VDC scarier than non-vdc mode for this reason alone. I don't like not being in 100% control of my car.

VDC does more than cut power to your rear tires. It also modulates the brakes on all four wheels to regain stability.
The Safety of Nissan’s Vehicle Dynamic Control System (VDC) Explained Victoria Nissan Last I heard, Audi was working on a system that didn't slow the car while trying to maintain control (most stability systems using braking to regain control). The new Audi system attempts to apply power to straighten the car instead. Not sure how this is coming along though.

Since i'm not a complete moron I know what will cause the rear end to kick out and hence I will be expecting it. Nothing wrong with a little tire spin when there is no traffic around. I'm just saying it's a horrible feeling to be expecting your car to act one way and then have VDC kick in and jolt the hell out of you and stop the forward motion of your car.
