I'm not sure that's true. The main Wiki article for this sort of thing states

"today about 66% of the world's people live in right-hand traffic countries and 34% in left-hand traffic countries."

and regardless of that, if they were all on the same side, it would screw up the flow at the gas stations. I jsut hate that the tahoe has it on one side and the Z on the other, because when its on the trailer on the way to the track, I have to reposition to fill both. I just always remember, our American cars are on the drivers side, foreign ones on the passenger side.
