If you need it off to accelerate into traffic then you should of waited till it was safe. Because wheel spin just makes you SLOWER NOT FASTER.

I keep mine on for the most part. Had it off for couple days to see even if I needed it.. Ya I do. I have a heavy foot, and will be going through tires like crazy. Kinda keeps me in check.

Last night when i was going home, i was turning left and i hit the throttle a little bit and the car started dancing from left to right... VDC was on, but it didn't kick in and cut of the throttle or anything. I got my car reflashed when i installed the intake over the weekend. i wonder can that turn the VDC off somehow? to my knowledge when i hit the gas and the car started sliding, VDC should have kicked in and corrected the car?

Mine is on 99.9% of the time, out of laziness to turn it off. When I want to raise hell I turn it off, decade and a half of driving from the 70's era (not me, the cars) to current has given me at least a tentative grasp of what I as well as a broken in car can handle.
Going from old classic cars with 450-600hp and skinny *** tires (by comparison to today) to this is apples and oranges, if you can cage the beast from the old days you can handle these newer cars...WITH PROPER PRACTICE. If you get scared at any time in a car you are pushing either it, our yourself beyond the limits; you, it or both. You don't jump in and gun the hell out of anything with a motor without a lengthy getting to know you phase...and even then it doesn't mean you are ready for a full foot to the floor stage. MY personal experience is that I have a lot of open roads where I live and "I" have a lot of time to play. My current and previous Z never scared me. The previous one WAS wrecked but hell VDC was on then, but rain can be a fickle bitch. *edit - a good rule of thumb is that if you can not launch with it off without spinning the tires and still get up to spead in a hurry you are not ready to turn it off, period. The first thing I do after I start my car is turn it off, unless it is raining. I like to fishtail corners and break traction going into 2nd and 3rd. The wife hates it when the rear end breaks loose so I tend to do it more when she is in the car

I've been driving mine with VDC off the passed few months. I left it on when it was raining a couple months ago. VDC is a good thing to have if you are a beginner driver or any snow, or rain or whateve. But like I said before, unless you are an idiot or a beginner driver, you should be fine with vdc off if you want that normal car feel. It's all about throttle control, if you are flooring the gas pedal all the time, I don't think you would have control over the Z or any rear wheel drive car in corners. Why do you think VDC also controls throttle response. VDC is for beginners. But like I said, don't be an idiot, such as rampaging through public roads in the first place, I'm talking about AutoX or circuit training
Otherwise, yeah they have VDC for a reason. For beginners. The only way you can tell how VDC affects your performance is if you go to the drag strip or whatever, test your 1/4 or how many seconds it takes to get to 100 miles with it on, and off. Obviously I recommend the drag strip for a reason. Anyhow, My CRX b16a got a better time than the 370z VDC On. When I turned off VDC, my time significantly improved by 1 second dusting both the crx, and VDC ON times, and I ran quite a few times. |
