Traction control
Any one else turn off the TC right when they get in?
My thoughts: I want to know where my car's breaking points are in regards to traction as well as engine performance. I push the rear as much as possible to get a feel of where the traction lets go in corners as well as light to light. I LOVE TO DRIVE!!! Just wondering how many others love to push their cars for what there made for. |

Do you drive with Vehicle Dynamic Control(VDC) off or on?

In the winter time in the PNW the roads are always wet... so it's always on. If the roads are dry and clear sometimes I turn it off. It's fun to wag the tail once in a while. But even under ideal conditions most of the time it's on for me.

Wackkkkkk. Always keep VDC off, it limits hp.
Seriously though I dont care for it, i just switch it on when I want. Most of the times its off because of the fun factor involved. |

Keep it on when it's wet. Otherwise, I turn it off because it's easier to rev match. I drive pretty conservatively and give all my attention to the road while in the Z.

I've told this story on here before, but a buddy of mine was driving my Z for the first time. He's a good driver, but doesn't mind putting it sideways on an exit ramp or such. So we're driving out of his neighborhood & he starts looking down at the dash & controls like he's trying to find something.
Steve: "Where's the traction control off button?" Me: "It's in the trunk." |

Logically, the more you get used to the car the more you want more performance. The VDC is non adjustable so you are stuck with using it either ON or OFF. With it ON (default) it won't let you do the things real driving enthusiasts want to do. If you feel the need to accelerate on occasion to pass or race - it cuts out the injectors and you bog down ... with a slow recovery to normal acceleration ... bummer as you see that Mini Cooper pass you by. With it OFF the car gets 'happy' in the rear and you go sideways...especially if you are not going exactly straight to begin with. Not fun looking at oncoming traffic bearing down on you. There are a lot of things you can do to improve your car's handling and performance...Tires, Brakes, Suspension But, as for the the (factory) VDC ... ??? ... disappointing, and I'm being kind. The Race Logic Traction Control (from GTM) is a good option - it offers user adjustability and keeps the wheels from spinning and the car going straight. It reacts quickly and recovers almost immediately. You can get it with the PNP harness' for the Z which greatly simplifies the installation. It might be possible that UpRev and ECUtek also have a traction solution available with their tunes... but not 100% sure on this. Hope this helps, Bob |

I never really think about it. It's wet most of the time so I keep it on. But I have shut it off a few times.

Personally I keep vdc on most of time but when I know of situations where I'm gonna be flogging but paying attention, I'll turn it off, especially to keep power from cutting.
I found an article on Nismo but the writer warns about vdc off but also sums up Z in the first sentence for me. "The Nismo 370Z is a throwback to a time when you had to really know how to drive a car to get the most out of it. There are only 100.4 in. between the front and rear tires, 4 fewer shorter than the old 350Z's from 2003 to 2008. That shortness causes the 370Z to be a bit twitchy and tail-happy, like a Subaru BRZ, but with higher limits. The Nismo 370Z doesn't have a multitude control modes like most newer sports cars that allow even inexperienced drivers to feel like racing rock stars. It has two: Stability control on, and a mode that will read you your Last Rites if you run short of talent." Read more: 2013 Nissan 370Z Nismo Road Test - Automotive.com
