I personally go with a plate that is not connected to a specific car. As a 22 year Navy nuclear submarine veteran on 688 los Angeles Class boats, and living in CT where the normal plates are 3 numbers, blank space, then 3 letters, I essentially got a free vanity plate by requesting a specific number: 688 TUF! Navy vets will understand.

My old Mustang had the plates "SLOW GT." People used to ask, "Is it really slow?"
"SLOW 370" "SLOW Z" Thought about those but decided on incorporating my job in with the car... so INVZTR it is.
