Hit and Run...

I went to my friend's apartment complex tonight around 6:15pm EST. We were playing Super Smash Brothers Brawl on our Wii when at around 6:38, his dad comes in the room and says, "Lets go take a walk to your car." At first I thought he meant his son's car, but when I realized he meant mine, I immediately thought the worst. His dad said he heard a "bang", so he looked out the window and saw a white F-150 with his rear bumper up against my front bumper. The f'in guy just drove off:mad: We went outside and sure enough, there is a large gouge in my front bumper:mad::mad: I called the police and they came out and said they would send detectives to the guys apartment (the ******* lives in that same complex). I hope the guy gets in deep crap for hit and run.

Now the search begins for a new stock front bumper, as well as dealing with my insurance:mad::mad::mad: Hopefully they are available and hopefully the paint job will come out good.

My old RSX got hit in the driver side front fender a while back and was fixed a buddy's body shop. The job turned out pretty poor, so I'll be going somewhere else, maybe even the dealer.

Has anyone else has to source bumpers yet?

That guy who hit and ran could get locked up for that.
Good luck!

whoady4shoady 02-13-2010 10:36 PM

He wont. He will get a ticket and a court date. its screwed up I know.

spearfish25 02-13-2010 10:37 PM

Bummer. Sounds like the guy is on borrowed time. If it's just the front fascia, Courtesyparts.com has them unpainted for $268. The energy absorbed (styrofoam) is another $77. All replaceable.

Wow that's pretty lousy, 6spd. Good luck with the situation.

Yeah, I looked at that earlier, but whether it can be sourced is the only issue. I'll find it though, I have very good connection locally.

I really wish it worked that way:stirthepot:

Zsteve 02-13-2010 11:39 PM

Your ins and body shop will have no prob getting the bumper.

kdoske 02-13-2010 11:42 PM

that sucks man.

6spd 02-13-2010 11:44 PM

It's the painting I'm mostly concerned with. There aren't many "good" paint shops around me, besides dealers.

370zproject 02-13-2010 11:45 PM

pics?

6spd 02-13-2010 11:47 PM

On my phone, but I don't have messaging or the USB cable needed to transfer them... sux.

You can take them to civil court and make them pay the damages plus lost time, attorney fees, stress, and vehicle depreciation and increased insurance premiums.

And let your insurance in on it as well, I'm sure they'd love to get their hands on that one.

BlackCherryZ 02-14-2010 03:09 AM

hope it all works out for the better.................

when something like this happens, i just tell myself i am just grateful that i am not hurt or i have not injured anyone or property........... trust me i have had similar incident.... in one case, my neighbor came out and stood by to see if the guy would leave a number on the windshield.............otherwise, he would have drove off..............

i guess it is a good lesson for all of us.............try to be decent to each other........do not do to others what you would not have them done to you.............simple fact......

just postive thoughts.............which in return engender positive energy.... *^^*

6spd 02-14-2010 08:15 AM

I like the zombie idea!

schrute 02-14-2010 08:20 AM

Sorry about your bumper 6spd, I've been on the receiving end of a hit and run as well. The responding officer found the guys car parked in a driveway in my neighborhood a few days later. Sweet justice.

Your Z will be back in shape before you know it. Try to not let it get you down.

4r3s 02-14-2010 08:27 AM

Suddenly that little scratch on my door doesnt seem so bad. Sorry this happened to you dude, I hope everything works out for you in this. Stupid people piss me off.

:icon18:my friend said basically the same thing to me last night!

PapoZalsa 02-14-2010 10:36 AM

If you can get his insurance company let your insurance co. deal with it.

6spd 02-14-2010 12:15 PM

florida is a no fault state, so either way mine will have to do it. i may not even go through the insurance, i may just do it myself to avoid the insurance increase and accident history... may prove useful later on.

WooZ 02-14-2010 12:59 PM

At least you knew who did it rather than some a_hole who didn't live around you and would never be caught.

Oh so true!!!

What color is your Z?

Metalics are a bit harder to mach the color. Solids are easier. I had a classic restoration body shop years back, so I'm familier. That's why I wish my Z was a solid black not with metalic. Solid black just "jumps" more too. Metalic Black seems to look like it's got a layer of fine dust on it IMO

Dealer will probably just outsource it as they don't do paint jobs usually.

Best to find a good shop on your own, check examples of their work before hand. Don't use a cheapo shop!!!! Overspray and compounding dust can get into all sorts of places, and will take a major detail job to clean. PITA I know it happened to me with my Porsche. Engine compartment got trashed with dust and crap! Still NEVER has looked the same.

2 stage enamels with the hardener additive allows them to be able to wet sand and buff like the old laquer paints. Then, dust, orange peel is not that much of an issue.

Good luck, and sorry to hear of your mishap.

Hope this helps.

NYBladeZ 02-14-2010 01:38 PM

Good luck and I hope it's a quick and quality fix. I've seen some pictures of the PW with some horrible paint jobs, be adamant that it matches properly when all said and done, they are probably going to have to paint the hood and fender as well to match.

Don't let them do that!!!!!

Just paint the bumper. I can't stress this enough. A quality paint shop WILL be able to match the color, it might take a couple of tries BUT... Don't paint the whole nose of the car, if it doesn't match, then you've got a much bigger problem and a car that's been half re-painted. Check it when finished in both flouresant and natural sunlight to be sure.

I spent years restoring Jags, Rolls etc.. Take my word on this. Just don't accept the car if it's not perfect. Tell them this when you contract them.

Certain paints can be dead on matches out of the can, Glasow (german) is one.

AMCPacer 02-14-2010 02:57 PM

Sorry to hear that. Hit and run drivers are the biggest f'ing a-holes. They deserve something worse than death.

+1

That's one thing I hate about non-factory repaints, 99% of the time they are not perfect and these shops get away with it. Don't drive it off the lot until you've examined the job from head to toe (in different lighting conditions ideally).

6spd 02-14-2010 03:50 PM

I am going to buy a new bumper and then whoever i choose to have paint it i will bring the original bumper to them. im not bringing the whole car and dropping it, just the bumpers, new and old. they should be able to match it perfectly that way. im lucky that the bumpers matched 100% from the factory. we've all heard to many people complain that theirs don't match. my old rsx got trashed by overspray when i had my fender done...

btw, the car color is PW.

dudafunk 02-15-2010 11:51 AM

Got my fender and door painted last week from Geico recommended body shop closest to my house. . i cant tell the color difference (although my roommate can but he says its 95% accurate). life is back to normal now.

95% is better than most

With the ocd I have with my car though, I don't know if I could handle it not being perfect, lol.

My deductible is to high for me to go through my insurance, so I'm just taking care of it unless the police can catch up to the bastard that caused the damage. I ordered the bumper and will have it painted at my local dealer we always work with at my business, so all should be well. The body shop guy I talked to said not to worry about the paint matching, they are very good at it. Should be done next week. At least they are doing the bumper by itself, so no worries about overspray!

I thought he lived in the same apt complex? They didnt get his plate number and look him up? If you know who it is and you are not going to use your ins company (lower your deductable) then keep all the stuff you had to go through with this and sue him in small claims court. But Im curious as to why the police havent got him yet? I would be asking them every day if they spoke to him and ticketed him. But really if the cost is more than your deductable then you might as well use it and save some cash. It only goes on the carfax if there is a police report and they send it in.

And if they dont do anything and you know where he parks then revenge is a bitch.

Smallywood 02-16-2010 12:30 PM

I think it's because you were playing a Wii and not an Xbox 360... 

Peoblem is the aprtment complex is one of those low oncome restricted complexes, so he is probably broke anyway, I followed up on the poilce teport and the cops haven't done anything yet.. figures...and the address the vehicle is regstered t id another location, not in the patment complex.. sux the bug one! but im dealing with it. Im gonna use the old bumper forr auto-x, ill smash up the cones with that one. gotta make lemonade right?!
