Black Z's?

I will be buying a black Z soon, but I have read many owners REGRET purchasing this car in black.

They say it is hard to maintain, shows scratches/swirls easily, and the paint has begun to wear off.

Do any black Z owners regret getting the car in black?:ugh:

Dont really regret it. If i had a White Z i would spend just as much time maintaining it so it was no difference for me.

Only thing that sucks is you will notice how thin your clear coat is with black after the first bird/bug guts eat its way through in less than a day. Its just as thin on any other color.

My black Z is awesome! Had many black cars in my life. My favorite colour. Classic. But, I wish it was just a straight black, not metalic.

I also like the platinum graphite, and would probably have gotten the titanium gray if I was in Japan or Europe (not available in US) Also, I like the way the gray colour contrasts with the black door pillars and front grille. Blends a bit too much with a black car.

But after having several gray metalic cars (Ferrari, Mach 1, Oldsmobile), they just never really JUMP even when clean IMO. Black is a bit harder to keep clean but dazzles when detailed.

Black Z's look awesome when theyre clean. If you don't mind putting a little effort in taking care of your car, you're rewarded with an awesome and deep shine. I'm not that dedicated so I went with PG :P

It's the sold story. Black is as gorgeous when its clean as it is unattractive when its dirty. Consider the climate where you live, if you have a garage at home and work, your auto maintenance habits, etc. I had a big black Chrysler Imperial years ago. Felt embarrassed when driving it dirty but felt like a regular monarch when driving it clean and in its glory. Up to you.

:happydance:Not me, love black. Black even makes the ugliest vehicles look good. With black you have to know and be realistic about what you are getting. I currently own three black vehicles and I know that nothing looks as good as a black car. If you are not one that cleans your vehicle regularly, black would not be for you....but if you take pride in your vehicles and make it a habit of keeping your vehicle clean.....a black car cannot be beat. Good Luck with your purchase:ughdance:

No regrets, I personally think black is the best color for the Z. You just have to be willing to keep up with the maintenance.

No worries on black paint, just load up on the sealer and wax and build up a good protection, because the clear coat won't help much.

And then just make sure to add dark tint and black wheels... ow wait don't because that's what I'll be doing...

PapoZalsa 02-05-2010 07:25 PM

Any black car will required a high level of elbow grease! :ugh2:

Still love my black Z.
Just give your new black Z 3 coats of Zaino as soon as possible then you don't have to worry too much about swirl marks or bird drops.

No doubt, Black looks sick...always has and always will. It is a little harder to maintain...but its worth it when you get stares :driving:

i just purchased a black Z last weekend.

You're right. I can scratch the paint just by staring at it. I pondered if i made a mistake and should have purchased the PG instead.

But when i get stares everywhere i go, i know it's worth it.

cab83_750 02-05-2010 10:51 PM

Black car here. And prior ones too.... As black is timeless.

If you do not have a garage, I don't recommend it.

cab83_750 02-05-2010 10:54 PM

Oh,when I was buying I had all the colors displayed for me and the black Z and the red Z won. I did not pick the red as I don't want any potential additional attention from the highway patrol personnel.

fairladyZ34 02-06-2010 12:32 AM

my black z is looking pretty good as it sits inside away from this snow storm

CrownR426 02-06-2010 12:37 AM

Yeah, when it's dirty I really regret.
Yeah, when I'm washing it I really regret.
Yeah, when I'm done I realize black was the best choice.

kevin1985912 02-06-2010 02:55 AM

like the old saying, " once you go black, you can't go back!!!" :icon18:

blue660r01 02-06-2010 09:22 AM

I regret it

Black cars are easily the best looking on the road when theyre clean, but yes they are the most difficult to keep looking that way. Now that I dont have a carport to park under and my relatively new job is across the street from a rock quary (TONS of rock dust everywhere) another black car was just too much work for me to justify getting it again. If I had a garage black would be #1 choice again.

I would recommend to anyone purchasing a black Z to consider some form of paint protection such as Venturshield. Black is a great color but will require more attention from you regardless of whether it is a 370Z or something else. Knowing that going into it should help you in deciding to get a black Z or not. Yes, more work but looks great. Invest in some protection up front, clean and wax regularly and you'll be happy.
