How Do You Mount Your Detector?
In my RSX, I ran a straight cord up from the dash around the windshield (behind the plastic molding) and over to the rear-view mirror where the connector popped out and I plugged it into my Escort 8500. The windshield caps are so pathetic that I used silicone inside the cups to "glue" it to the glass and keep it stuck there right above the mirror.
Looking to mount the Escort in my Z, of course and I see there is this matrix of black dots around that area of the windshield. GRRRRR !!! So, teh question: Where are you guys mounting your detectors? I can tell you right now, I don't fancy the look of an exposed cord on my dash at all. BTW, what is that matrix on the windshield around the mirror...just something to reduce sun glare?

Mine goes up and to the A-pillar down to the fuse box on the driver side.

That's a nice-looking mount. Don't think Escort makes anything like that...

Oh I got you all covered: *Valentine and Escort* Radar Detector Mirror Mounting Brackets
It is beefy, but it looks great and has a Z on the other side facing out.

Slynky, I have a beltronics STI, bought it a couple of years ago because I live in VA. At the time, dont know if it still is, was the only radar detector that was undetectible by rader detector detectors. I hope that makes sense. Anyways, the beltronics STI can detect laser and radar. I have mine mounted right undernieth the tint line on the window. You don't want your radar detector directly behind the tint. The tint will greatly reduce your ability to pick up radar. Typically it is generally better to have your radar detector as high as possible so that you can pick up the scatter (scatter being the radar bouncing off the vehicles infront of you). The draw back of mounting it high though is your ability to pick up laser is reduced. It is a catch 22.

Your Touring model has the Homelink mirror. Just get a "stealth mount" cord on Ebay or even make one yourself. You can plug it directly into the power supplied to the mirror and mount the detector below the mirror using its own mount. I did it and love the results.

I use a cordless, battery operated Escort Solo S2. Works great. Several months on two AA batteries. I mounted it on the passenger side sun visor.

On the power, With the Tour Mirror you can just plug into the rear with an invisicord Invisicord Products Home Page If you have a base or sport, there are fused hardwire cables available here Valentine Products - "Be Safe with Safe-N-Sound1.com" that can be run down along the A pillar to the fuse box... |

I used blendmount (rear mirror mount) and invisicord for my Escort 9500ix.
Blendmount is a little expensive but it's well made, compact, removable, and can be adjusted in multiple directions. I have looked into other mounts - I like Blendmound the best. |
