general guideline for maintenance.....
as a daily driver, i would like to have general idea as to when i should change what........ just to keep my heads up
of course, everything is dependent on how you drive your car and the environment, but i am inquiring about general rule of thumb for daily drivers......perhaps, once in a while "peddle to the metal"............. this is what i have gathered so far from this forum in GENERAL...... 1) Oil Change: based on synthetic - every 6-7,000 miles or 6 months first oil change between 1,200 to 2,000 miles recommended synthetic after 5,000 miles recommended ester based oil is recommended but not required 2) tires (sports package) 15-20,000 miles 3) brake pads/fluid? 4) spark plugs? 5) transmission oil/other fluids? 6) light bulbs? 7) air filter? etc......... Once again, any input would be appreciated and please keep in mind that this is just rule of thumb for daily drivers............ if possible, i would like to know what is recommended vs what is realistically practical........ perhaps, it's too early to inquire about this kind of info, for i do not think there are many members with over 20k miles..... just for the sake of compilation, i would appreciate if ppl add to the list i have on this page. as always, |

Most of this is included in the maintenance schedule of your owners manual. One thing I would keep an eye on is the oil change intervals... these are going to depend on your driving habits and conditions. The longest I would ever go on my Redline synthetic is about 4000 miles.

but i would like to know what the owners are doing in reality... for example: although the recommended interval for the first oil change is 3750, i do not think any of the forum members is waiting until that long...correct me if i am wrong... also, some of the members are already changing the transmission oil, break-oil bleeding, and etc....... i am sure each of them has their own preference and reasoning - i cannot argue for the one or the other......... but i just want to be better informed.... i just would like to get a rough comparison between what is recommended vs what is "practiced" in reality.... |

Perhaps I could, but it just looks dirty at that mileage, so I just go ahead and change it. IMO it's better to stay ahead than to trail behind!

Well then you'd be more concerned about time intervals.

Just a quick question: Does the 370 not tell you when it's time for service?
My BMWs have always counted down with green and amber lights until service interval. I thought all cars would do this these days. Hmmmppph. When is the first oil change? (No manual on hand at the moment)
