Dealer Prep Blunders!
 

Third time I drove my car yesterday since delivery and the Tire Pressure Sensor light went on. I figured that due to the recent cold weather here in PA, the tire pressure went down a little, so I went to my local mechanic to have him top off the pressures. He was astounded. The two front tires were at 29 pounds. The left rear was at 35 pounds and the right rear at 41 pounds! This was the way the car was delivered, as I've not driven much since and never touched the tire pressures. There's no excuse for incompetence like this. Unfortunately, I'm sure I'm not the first victim and and I know I won't be the last. I just hope it's never a more serious safety issue. Incidentally, as soon as I drove away, the sensor light went off.

My sensor light is on with 37 lbs in each tire.... non stock winter Graspic DS3's. The dealer installed the tires on the wheels with new TPMS sensors and they said the light was off when they drove it to the window tinting shop. But worst of all, they damaged the paint on the bumper trying to remove the stupid dealer sticker I had told them TWICE not to put on! The car goes to the shop this weekend for a complete repaint of bumper with only 70kms on the car.... stoopid dealer prep....

All free of charge I hope. They should be able to just reset the TPS and thats done.

Thats poor supervisory going on there, I know they might have some young kid off the street just breaking into the business that does the prep so they should definately be doing some quality assurance checks on outgoing cars.

Picked up my Z and had the TPS light come on on the way home. Next morning both left side tires were flat. Turned out both had punctures and needed to be replaced. (Dealer is in the middle of a remodel and must have drove over a nail or something while prepping the car).

Took three trips to sort out the tires, and one more to fix the curb rash the tech put on the right rear rim while moving the car. Sheesh.

Now I'm debating if it's worth the risk to take the Z back to get the rear hatch TSB taken care of... who knows what they'll break next.

Take it back, this is where Nissan might be getting over on reliabilty numbers. Since they hassle you so much on getting things fixed under warranty (check spelling for those that got me last time LOL) owners dont want to go back and have them fix things so they just do it themselves, and guess what? Nissan's reliabilty looks good so they dont change any procedures or anything. Owners of Merc, BMW, Audi, etc. take their car in for the smallest of things cuz they get great customer service so their reliability might look worse but they get hassle free fixes. Just a thought.

Never assume a dealer knows anything about setting tire pressures correctly. A gauge in your glove compartment is your best friend..

I had the shipment spacers stuck in my springs for 30k miles. These are the spacers they put in your springs from germany during shipment. Prep is supposed to remove them before delivery. I only noticed it after a grinding noise could be heard when turning sharp. One of the spacers dislodged and stuck rubbing the tire. I was livid.

Like mentioned above. Don't expect to the dealer to know anything about your car. Research research research then thuroughly check yourself.

It took the dealer around two months when I had my 350Z to reset my TPMS. They had to call the Nissan Technicians and a TBS was already out. :rolleyes:

They put the wrong locking lug nuts on mine, and only put them on finger tight. Fortunately, my car only drove home the 12 miles from the dealership before I started pulling it apart to mod anyways, so I caught it immediately.
