Wire ties on steering rack boot?
Just had my car on a lift to change the oil, and noticed the wire ties securing the steering rack boot. Not a hose clamp but a wire tie! Like what was used years ago to wrap 100lb bags of potatoes. WTF? But yet there's like 10 bolts holding on the splash pan under engine. So it can't be used to save weight.
If I need to replace this, do I get the part from Nissan or my local potato farmer? Don't get me wrong, I still love my Z! Wire ties and all. |
That's because you got the base. The sports model gets a hose clamp. The Nismo gets a shiny hose clamp.

Yep, car manufacturers have been using plastic "zip ties" for years on rack bellows.

Wire ties are used on a lot of boots from OEM equipment to replacement boots.

Actually the service manual specifies a boot clamp. Probably a wire boot clamp (cheapo hose clamp) but a clamp none the less. Should have got a picture of the wire tie you saw. |
