If This Happens to Your Color, Center Screen (Touring Models)
If this ever happens to your center screen for those of you with touring models..... (Screen turns a shade of red.) Oh, I shoud say, go to about 1:00 in. I temporarily fix it by pounding my fist on the top of the dash.
Have them ONLY replace the screen. Nothing else. Here's a quick update about the problem I posted at a different forum. Well everyone, THE FX IS BACK! I got it back yesterday. Ahhhh. It feels good to be back in it. It turned out to be the screen that was broken, not any of the wiring. I guess Infiniti tech line said this has happened 3 times around the country before mine. Each time they did the same thing. Replaced the whole interior wiring harness which never fixed it. Every car needed a new screen. The wiring harness itsself cost $1,400 not including labor. The screen is $2,500 but takes only a half hour to install. Either way, my service manager said this round cost Infiniti $7,100. (That's not including the 3 other times it was in ripping apart the center stack, giving me a USED AV unit, and rewiring the screen multiple times.) Of course, my tech accidently hit my door on the lift that needed a $700 new paint job. Total cost of the red screen problem... around $10,000. Me pimpin' around in the loaner Mercedes ML350, priceless. Ha ha! It really is amazing. I became used to the red nav screen after 4 months. Now it looks crisp and white again... Much easier on the eyes. It's amazing the difference. As far as getting the car back, my dealer did a great job like you guys told me. No squeaks or rattles that I can hear whatsoever. The only difference is that "piano black" center stack cover which makes loud cracking noises now when the temperature changes inside the cabin. I can live with that. Since I turned down the radio to hear if the dash made any noise, I could hear, albiet faintly, that high-pitched noise that's REALLY loud in my 370Z. It happens when I press my gas pedal. Hopefully there's a fix coming out for that, though my FX's noise is very, very faint. My dealer, International Infiniti treated me more than well, did a great job, and my car was completely spotless when I got it. Really a good job on handing the keys over. The service manager asked if he could take my car over the weekend to listen for any squeaks or rattles, and I let him. They even filled my tank with premium when I got it back. Really nice. It looks like my key fob battery is going dead because a picture of a key and a low battery shows up every time I start the car. It shows in that little red screen between my speedo and tach should any of you have it happen. I guess we can replace those ourselves. The Mercedes felt like a tank compared to the FX. I corner in the Infiniti and it feels like a sportscar! Also, the power is so much better. So is the gas mileage. Though this has been a mess, it's good to have the car back and my dealer did a great job. The Z is still in the shop and I have not heard one word of any updates. I don't think they're going to tell me anything about it. It's going to be interesting to see what they're going to do with my revver. The only thing I could've thought of was a mouse nest in the motor, but I couldn't see any trace of them. And why would it all of a sudden start doing it when I put on about 70 miles the day before? We'll see. In the meantime, that dealer rented my a Chrysler 300C V-6 for that car. What? No Mercedes? That Chrysler... Ufff. It's really said how people treat rental cars. It has 9,500 miles on it and is all scratched, the interior has parts broken in it, and it has a funky smell. Great job renters. I wonder if that's how you treat your own car. It's a tank, but it actually handles really well for a boat. It's smooth, quiet, but the transmission is a little strange. I actually think the 300 looks pretty cool. It's low and wide and has nice, big wheels. All in all, it's good to be in the FX again. Could it have been lemoned over this? Yeah. Would I do that over this? Naw. I like the car. There's really nothing quite like it on the road. I need to put wheels on it or something. Big, black wheels (which I've seen pics on this forum) would look cool on this car. But, that's what I have the Z for. Or, will I have the Z? That's kind of a different issue. I'll keep you updated. On the Z forum, my post was a pretty big deal. A lot of feedback on it. Noone even has a clue as to what happened. Okay, back to shoveling the fresh snow! Only 2". I can handle that, and so can the FX. Talk to ya! Last edited by TheWeatherman; 02-02-2010 at 12:08 PM. |
