All new engines being broken in will produce some metal shavings and things that are best taken out of the engine oil earlier rather than later...a good filter will catch most of them but if you really want to take care of your ride, the extra effort of changing the oil very early the first time is a good thing to do.

Also it was claimed by the Honda service department that the oil in the car from the factory was "special" and I needed to leave it in there until 4k miles which I did. Not sure if it's the same with the Z or not. |

No that 3000k mile stuff is BS. Just to make money. Oil is usually good for 5 -8 k. Our Oil Analyst said most are safe up to 13-15k. not sure you want to do that on such a god of a car but.

Just to keep it on the safe side, don't go past 7,500 on ANY synth' oil, and 3,500 on regular dino. That's one area where you don't wanna be stingy and/or negligent. Greetings!

First oil change at 1500 miles using regular Castrol GTX + Purolator PureOne filter.
2nd oil change will be at 3500 miles using again regular Castrol GTX 5w-30 and PureOne filter. I will then do 3000 miles every time after that with Castrol GTX dino, until I reach 12500, then I will switch to Castrol Syntec European Formula 0w30 + PureOne filter for the rest of the car's life. |

I did my first change at about 1250 miles. I refilled using the Nissan ester oil, and used a Mobil 1 number 110 filter which is slightly larger than the standard size. At about 5050 miles, I changed again to Redline 5W30 synthetic and a new Mobil 1 filter. My plan is to stick with Redline and 5K OCI's. The VQ37 engine, as we all know runs hot and a premium oil is important. While I have used dino oil like Pennzoil yellow bottle and Castrol GTX with good results in other cars for the last 30+ years. I wouldn't run anything except a good synthetic in the 370Z. The Nissan ester oil cost about $12 per qt. plus tax at the dealer, I bought a case of Redline for about $10 per quart delivered to my house. That was an easy decision to make.

I changed it at 250 and my next change will be at 3750. I bought the maintenance plan though the dealer, so the cost of the Ester oil is covered at intervals of 3750.

Just changed my oil to 5w30 Redline today, my Z has 2,500 miles on it. The quart of Redline stated it's not for engine break in and recommended using it after 3,000 miles, didn't actually notice the label till after I changed it.
