Good alternatives to OEM catalytic converters?
Currently running test pipes on my 2012, just read that my county will begin doing emissions next year. Emissions have never been a thing here so this is an area I'm fairly clueless about.
The default will be to get OEM cats but I'd be interested in seeing if there are less expensive options that will definitely pass the smog test. A lot of these high-flow cat options look great, but I'm unsure they would actually pass? |
Your best bet is to look for someone selling stock catalytic converters for a sure pass. I have some Old high flow cats that passed, albeit with a proper tune.
TX doesn't do the sniffer test on the cars, they do the OBD2 readiness check. |
Looks like that's what I'll be doing. Are all years/transmissions/packages interchangeable?

Well looking at the prices of the used OEM cats they are going for quite a bit less than I expected.
My only question now is are all years the same? I was under the impression they were, and if I could get a newer year with fewer miles I'd prefer that. But looking at Nissan Parts Deal it says the following are compatible with my 2012: Production Date: 09/2010-06/2014 Unless I'm reading into this wrong |
lowest mileage from a "stock" motor is the way to go. I imagine the fitment is the same, but the spec maybe a bit different between years.

Cheapest I've seen! IMO the R&R is cake, I'd put them in for testing then remove until the next test is required.
