Manual or Automatic - What do you have?

The community here seems to care a lot less about auto or manual. It seems like a lot of people have an obvious preference, but aren't up to force it

Has anyone taken an automatic to the track?

Even the Indy cars are moving toward automatic:

Excerpt from The Indianapolis 500 Electronic Edge...

Adam Schaechter, chief engineer at AJ Foyt Racing, says that one of the biggest changes in the race over the past few years has been the switch to the current six-speed, all-forward-gears, semi-automatic transmission. It eliminates the clutch pedal and provides electronic control to synchronize timing and torque requirements, resulting in a smooth, efficient transition.

The drivers only have to contend with a paddle shifter that toggles up or down one gear. The shift control incorporates strain gauges to determine when a driver desires a transition. This has led to a “shift without lift” approach to driving, where the driver always has the “pedal to the metal.”

I could let someone else drive for me too, but that wouldn't be any fun.

At least now the SRM totals are on the correct side of the MT totals.

This will seem odd, but I actually prefer driving with the SRM turned off so far. Picked up the car only 3 weeks ago and have put very few miles on it, maybe my preference will change with time.

Automatic. I also have a color tv and I use a microwave. My grill uses propane instead of charcoal too.

I have driven manuals all my life, this is my first semi-automatic sports car but it gives me the best of both words. No constant shifting when in traffic or the city and "shifting" fun when I want to cut lose on a curvy road or track. I love it. I guess that's why Nissan makes it with the two options, other sports cars don't.

i am so glad nissan did not make one type of transmission for the 370z like they did for the GT-R. if they did, i would have to buy another car.

You've lost all credibility with that statement, poser.

My 350 is auto, basically for the comfort of city driving in traffic and such, but my next car will definitely be a manual, I miss having the full control!

One of the reasons I have a manual (besides the purity of the drive) was that my wife can't drive it.

(sorry honey)

If the 370 had a transmission like the GT-R, there would be no question the auto would be the way to go if you could afford the extra cost which would not be cheap.
