OK, manual users, if in an automatic, if you can simply keep the accelerator pedal down and only have to move a paddle to shift vs. letting off the throttle, push in the clutch, move the shift lever to another location and let the clutch back out, how can that possibly be faster?

Yes, yes, automatics have progressed enough to catch up to even the savviest of manual transmission users. You know what? I bought it with the 6-speed gearbox because I wanted to have it. I'm not getting paid to go around a track the fastest, so that "oh auto is faster anyway" has nothing on me.

So NYAH. lol

OK, I'll be the first to ask. Why are there more SyncroRevMatch answers then there are Manual transmission answers?

34 SRM to 30 Manual at the time I am writing this.

This thread/debate is turning into the same thing as the great oil debate.

Has anyone taken an automatic to the track?

Even the Indy cars are moving toward automatic:

Excerpt from The Indianapolis 500 Electronic Edge...

Adam Schaechter, chief engineer at AJ Foyt Racing, says that one of the biggest changes in the race over the past few years has been the switch to the current six-speed, all-forward-gears, semi-automatic transmission. It eliminates the clutch pedal and provides electronic control to synchronize timing and torque requirements, resulting in a smooth, efficient transition.

The drivers only have to contend with a paddle shifter that toggles up or down one gear. The shift control incorporates strain gauges to determine when a driver desires a transition. This has led to a “shift without lift” approach to driving, where the driver always has the “pedal to the metal.”

I could let someone else drive for me too, but that wouldn't be any fun.
