I want an exhaust for my Z, need help plz
So stock Z right now sounds good under 3k rpm (I like the quiet, when I’m around town) but I want it to open up a bit over 3-4K when I’ve got my foot to the floor I want it to sound like it lol. Kinda like stock+ sound. Been looking for maybe a cat back just to get a lil more sound. Could use some suggestions
|
Invidia Gemini V2. Just loud and raspy enough to enjoy it, but just quiet enough that it won't annoy you or go on your nerves when on highway.
|
I would say Tomei was good for me it was pretty quiet in low rpms but was very loud when opened up. Tomei will be constantly loud tho if you get test pipes tho. I loved my Tomei when I was stock it was a good tone plus very light weight.
|
HKS High Power.Quiet at low RPMs but really sounds good when you put your foot down.
|
After listening to every exhaust I could find I think you would like AFE, hks, fast intentions, borla, ISR. YouTube. My top 2 personal sound preference are Greddy GT and the AFE. Top dollar ARK Grip. ISR and topspeed pro1 honorable mentions for budget systems.
btw theres a guy in the classifieds selling a lightly used hks in STL |

PS: there is a thread on this site with all the popular aftermarket’s sounds. Search for it. |
There aren't too many videos of it that I could find when I was in the market, but now that it's installed, I love my S-Tune Nismo. Perfect fitment, stock+ type of sound and look (in my opinion). I had a Tomei and it just became too loud for me and I wanted something a little more classy.
|
I forgot, I made this as soon as I installed it, sound check for Invidia Gemini V2

I love my AAM Competition axle back muffler. Quiet at low RPMs, opens up at WOT. Absolutely no drone anywhere in the rev range. Believe me, I've tried a lot of exhausts and I always come back to this one. Perfect fit and extremely well-made.

Woah, thanks for the help guys. Wasn’t expecting so many replies lol. I appreciate it!!

Also have the Invidia Gemini. It's just loud enough to be fun but not loud enough to be annoying. And the tone is very nice.
|
there's no shortage of options and reviews and videos available. Pick the one you like
Generally though, Fast Intentions and Motordyne have been commonly accepted as good quality and sound. FI is more bearable on a daily; the motordyne gives you a different deeper sound Your primary concerns should be: build quality ride height, it should not sit lower than stock customer support for power, you're going to be looking beyond just the exhaust |
HKS hi power exhaust is my recommendation. Great look, fitment and I love the exhaust note. Nice and throaty around 3k rpms. I've had this exhaust on my Z and G35 coupe. Like someone already stated, it's quiet when cruising but really opens up when you floor it. I love how it sounds at 7500 rpms!

MotorDyne :yum:
Always got compliments on my Z's MotorDyne exhaust and it had test pipes which usually makes them obnoxious as hell. Was going to get ART pipes but didn't keep the Z long enough to get that done. Good luck on the search OP. My vote is for MotorDyne. |
There are only two IMO.
1st choice: Fast Intentions in Simi Valley, Headers or High Flow Cats, Non Resonated, Carbon Fiber muffler, prismatic tips. Pleasing to the ears and the eyes. Countless compliments even from cops. My actual experience. If you are daring, order straight pipes LOL. 2nd: Motordyne Shockwave here in Santa Clarita. Supporting local business. I live in the area + it sounds fantastic. Watch youtube videos and you'll be sold. Not a looker vs Fast Intentions Carbon Fiber exhaust. Whatever you decide, stay away from the crappy looking single exhaust. Many like their Tomei but man, it just looks fugly from the rear. Looks 5tupid with a blank on one side. I can't stand the awful aesthetic of a single exhaust but its a free country so your call. |
I have a Magnaflow in one of my Z's. It's not too loud or too quiet. Just right.....and every time I see the "MF" on the tips I think that it's funny and I smile.

I want an exhaust for my Z, need help plz
I have the Fast Intentions Catback with 18” resonators on my 2013 370z. Great sound at low rpm and opens up clean in the higher rpm. I have Megan headers and FI high flow cats. Love the system from both the looks and performance and sound

On my car is ISR's dual catback exhaust system. Build quality was great and the price is even better. The exhaust comes with a modular connecting piece with two bottle resonators and two large rear mufflers exiting the rear of the car for that aggressive look out the back that so many people love. The system is deep and low with ZERO Rasp!! but with a Y-pipe of your choosing(I went 1320performance) you can really get her to open at those higher rpms. It sounds dare I say GtRishh not like motodyne but similar in a way & all for half the cost. I got my full system for under 1k with change to spare.

I recently installed the ARK Grip on my 2020. Super deep “throaty” sound. Actually quite stock sounding while mostly coasting down the road but when you step on it the “power sound” is right there!!!!
|
HIGHLY recommend Megan Racing axle back to add some sound to the OE feel. It's plug and play, no rasp, call it "adult style".
|
fast intentions are good, i do wish i can upgrade to another fast intentions with burnt tips, im running og exhaust system
|
Running Fast Intentions w/ resonators and their 10" sport mufflers. So far, nothing but smiles.
|
Fast Intentions, non resonated.

How about Axle back options: Please rate.
REMARK V2 MEGAN RACING or AAM COMPETITION? |

For the FI users, do you have problems with mufflers slipping off exhaust hangers when you accelerate or decel.?
I have heard, that this is an issue for some, as FI does not put "mushroomed" ends on hanger support rods. Looking at FI pictures, it appears they are straight rods. |
I recently sold my Z and had my exhaust taken off during the trade. It’s a Fast Intentions 10” sport muffler with stainless steel tips. I also have high flow cats. The sound was amazing and plenty loud with no rasp

Never heard of it. |
To resurrect an old thread for opinions.
2017 Nismo. Any objections, thoughts, issues with this combonation: FI HF Cats, keep Stock Nismo midpipe, either AAM Axle back Muffler or Remark V2 Axle back Muffler.? I'm in canada and a complete FI system is over $4000. So, I'm trying to make good sound, save some weight. I know stock mid pipe is heavy, but trying to be economical with decent components. |

Are you sticking with HFC to pass emissions? Why are you limiting your options to just FI? There are other high quality options that might be more economical. But no, there wouldn’t be an issue with HFC and an axle back exhaust. You might get better exhaust tone from a true catback that is designed as a single unit, but that’s subjective. I may just keep OEM CATS and midpipes and go with axle back muffler. I had AAM short tails before, but got too loud for me. |

I like to recommend Invidia Gemini if you don’t want obnoxiously loud. It has a great tone and is reasonably priced. I also recommend staying with OEM cats unless you really feel like spending the money on install and a retune. HFC and test pipes aren’t worth the headache for ~10hp, unless you’re forced induction or serious about performance modifications. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
If tuned properly; you can run HFCs with no CEL. Really it comes down to what you want as far as the sound. Im currently running the full motordyne system (Headers and HFCs) and my car has all of the readiness monitors enabled and passing on flex fuel.
Anyway, you will need a retune if you remove the stock cats. Honestly, you can make good power with the advancements in the ECUtek software on stock cats. Get yourself a quality catback and enjoy it! |
Thank you all for the kind comments and suggestions. Makes choices easier now. I will look at Invidia and cat backs.
I was always aware of the need to tune with HFC and now it has become an easy choice to keep oem cats. |
