Never heard of it. |
To resurrect an old thread for opinions.
2017 Nismo. Any objections, thoughts, issues with this combonation: FI HF Cats, keep Stock Nismo midpipe, either AAM Axle back Muffler or Remark V2 Axle back Muffler.? I'm in canada and a complete FI system is over $4000. So, I'm trying to make good sound, save some weight. I know stock mid pipe is heavy, but trying to be economical with decent components. |

Are you sticking with HFC to pass emissions? Why are you limiting your options to just FI? There are other high quality options that might be more economical. But no, there wouldn’t be an issue with HFC and an axle back exhaust. You might get better exhaust tone from a true catback that is designed as a single unit, but that’s subjective. I may just keep OEM CATS and midpipes and go with axle back muffler. I had AAM short tails before, but got too loud for me. |

I like to recommend Invidia Gemini if you don’t want obnoxiously loud. It has a great tone and is reasonably priced. I also recommend staying with OEM cats unless you really feel like spending the money on install and a retune. HFC and test pipes aren’t worth the headache for ~10hp, unless you’re forced induction or serious about performance modifications. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
If tuned properly; you can run HFCs with no CEL. Really it comes down to what you want as far as the sound. Im currently running the full motordyne system (Headers and HFCs) and my car has all of the readiness monitors enabled and passing on flex fuel.
Anyway, you will need a retune if you remove the stock cats. Honestly, you can make good power with the advancements in the ECUtek software on stock cats. Get yourself a quality catback and enjoy it! |
Thank you all for the kind comments and suggestions. Makes choices easier now. I will look at Invidia and cat backs.
I was always aware of the need to tune with HFC and now it has become an easy choice to keep oem cats. |
