Did I get a quality tune?
So I recently got tuned after throwing on a few bolt ons and was a little disappointed, and I'm wondering if that's justified or not lol
For context I have a 2016 Nismo with 7at and this is my first time installing mods on one of my cars, so I'm pretty new to this. I'm based in Vancouver, WA and drove up to Seattle to a shop that had an EcuTek master tuner. The whole experience was a little weird, the tuner refused to put a pop and bangs map on (didn't really want it, but I don't mind having options lol) My mods installed: Z1 cold air intake Invidia Gemini CBE Motordyne ART pipes So the first dyno pull without a tune showed a baseline of 308whp, and after 2 more pulls and tuning the dynograph showed 313whp. Unfortunately I don't have the dynograph for the torque, but I remember it being 4-5lbs more. He said I was running lean by 7% and fixed that, and threw a valet map on and sent me home. Now maybe I'm stupid, but I thought people with a similar build to mine made closer to 320-330whp. Just curious what anyone here thinks, and if there is anything I could do to get that number up a little. Also: Bonus points if anyone knows a good shop for 370s in the Vancouver/PDX area Last edited by kfcgodsword; 02-13-2023 at 01:20 AM. Reason: addition at the end |

Kinda stopped reading after the tuner refused to put a pop and bangs map on
Why would anyone above age of 20 and without a riced out VW Golf want a pop and bang map? |

There is only a handful of good VQ out there. Seb on the west coast. Vince on the east coast.

Like I said it wasn’t a dealbreaker, I obviously still went ahead and went through with it. Just thought it was worth mentioning because I’ve never read of tuners refusing it. |

I'm not sure if I heard a tuner refusing it, although I can think of it just like reputable tattoo shops. Those who care about their work will turn down shitty ideas.

In the Portland area the only people I know of who can do ecutek tunes are PREracing and apparently English racing in camas has recently started to do VQ tunes as well, neither of which specialize or have extensive knowledge in VQs.
If I were you I'd just get a remote tune like most of us do, there's no downsides except for you having to spend a little bit of your time to collect datalogs, I recommend SpecialityZ. |

The numbers are a little bit low but not unheard of. I dyno tested my 2019 Nismo and it made 296~ whp bone stock STD on a dynojet. I ended up throwing my custom 3.5" exhaust on it with cats still and it made 312 whp. The factory tune on the newer cars is suprisingly good.
I also ended up tuning another 19 Nismo for a customer and he had similar results to you. I wasn't able to extract more than 310 whp out of it but he still had cats. I'd expect atleast 320 whp with your setup but at the end of the day it's just a 2-3% difference at most.

I should add that I still had cats.

Brand of Dyno and the settings used for dyno correction can make a difference in numbers achieved.

Alright this makes me a feel better about it, I would guess that if anything was keeping my numbers a little low I would assume it would be the Invida CBE. It seems like from other people replying my results aren’t too far off, thanks for sharing |

Those numbers are accurate for 91oct imo. 93oct will give you a little more.

Thanks for the input, I completely forgot to take that into consideration. Now that I think about it, most of the videos and posts Ive seen were 93oct, so that makes sense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
