If the supply chain is still the way it is, dealerships are going to continue to ride that wave and just go with allocations/orders. Honestly it works for them. Cars are sold before they get to the lot. Nothing has to sit around so they don't need to negotiate. Guaranteed business with maximum profit. Mark-up is icing on top. Furthermore, I swear they are installing all these dumb a$$ accessories like pin stripes, ceramic coating, door edge guards, etc. that you have no other option but to purchase with the car.

Also, I'd go as far to say that out of all the cars that have been introduced recently, the new Z probably has the most anticipation.

My point is, how long can you actually wait? I'd say tack on another year on top of the new Z's actual release date (and I mean when they are hitting the docks) for a "decent" deal.
I agree with your assumption. For the most part...

I don’t see much demand for a new Z at $60,000. For a couple of more bucks, you’re talking Corvette money.

Like I said, for $40,000 new and $36,000 down on mine, it’s a no brainer.

I don’t see them selling many at $60,000. Just my opinion. It’s a wacky market.

Yes, sport touring. Again, from what the rumors are, the “base” looks like it’s going to be the old sport touring model. The “performance” looks to be the NISMO.

It’s all a guessing game right now until I think Nissan has stated that all specs and pricing are coming out this month.

As far as dealer mark up, I’m sure they’ll try, but it didn’t work for the Supra, and I doubt it will work for the Z.

Exactly. Nissan has this in the bag. It's up to us as consumers to control this $hit, but people will do what they want.

Great point. I forgot to mention this, but I made a post about this in the 400z thread. Nissan is slightly misleading/ falsely advertising the new Z. As far as I know there are two trims CURRENTLY. Sport and Performance. There are differences with brakes, suspension, interior options, wheels, LSD, etc.

So far it's Sport, Performance, and a proto spec edition. NISMO is usually released later.

What do you mean the mark-up didn't work for the Supra?

[QUOTE=gbrettin;4024685]

The new Z has a lot more electronics. I think there will be a time where people wish they had all the analog gauges sitting in front of them.

Yeah, now if I could just get that digital clock switched over to analog! LOL
(Love my Z, but that's my least favorite feature)

Especially when there’s another clock 3 inches below it on the Nav screen.

There were a few fools that payed the $20,000 - $100,000 markup to be the first in line. I don’t need a new car that bad....

To add to my story, my wife and myself both work at the same Golf Course which is 15 minutes from home. We can always drive in together and one of us could take the car home and come back on the days we’re not working the same hours, or I’m considering getting a beater bike to ride back and forth while I wait.
Having only 1 car for the household let alone a 2 seater sports car, is a bad idea imo. There will most definitely be times where you're going to be kicking yourself for not having 2 cars.

Plus I would hate to DD my sports car. They are meant for weekends, nights, pleasure cruising and the track. Maybe take it into work on a Friday, but that's it. The idea of me putting DD amount of miles on a car meant for pleasure makes me cringe personally. Buy a beater for the daily duties.

As new as it may be, sports cars still need to go in the shop from time to time and then you're SOL until you get it back if you have only 1 car.

Just my

You mentioned the new Z not approaching 60k, as it would be the Corvette money...well guess what, both the Corvette and the Supra are also seeing their prices rise, as is with everything. It won't be just the new Z having a price higher than announced. I think your decision should be based on the fact that the new Z will probably cost you at least 50k.

All I’m saying is compare apples to apples. If they’re both going to be $20,000 higher, I’m going for the Vette.

I’d consider a base Corvette for $80,000 before I’d pay $60,000 for a base Z. To each is own, but let’s keep it in perspective.

The new Z is supposed to be an “affordable” sports car it always was.

The new Corvette is an “affordable” super car.

I guess when you put it into perspective either way it's a win. You could always sell now and just sit on that cash. Wait it out a bit and go and grab new Z in the next few months. I most certainly believe the new Z will be a superb platform to continue tuning and outright enjoying. I would be just so tempted to take that 36 and toss it on a C7. It's pretty much up to you and hope I'm in your predicament soon lol.
