Good luck finding one at MSRP when they finally release. Take into account the current state of the "new cars" market, and you have a recipe for inflated dealer prices. Manufacturers across the board are starting to crack the whip on dealers too, threatening future allocations if they don't shape up and stop taking advantage of folks. I think I read somewhere that the market isn't gonna return back to "normal" until sometime around the latter half of 2023. What that new normal will be though is anyone's guess given the past couple of years with this market.

I actually like this thread a lot. Lots of good perspective and no bull ****. Like OP said, it's completely situational and personal. One common theme I see in this thread is the upgrade to the new Z - just keep in mind, although it's still a Z at heart, it's a different power plant. Do you want FI over NA? Will you enjoy it? No matter what anyone says, the 370z is an OG. Also, at the end of the day, it's a gamble to do something right now and expect things to fall into place in the future. Just some things to think about before pulling the trigger on whatever it is that you decide

If you actually want the new Z (or whatever new car for that matter) and have the luxury of utilizing another car to get by in the mean time, I'd say definitely go for it if the deal is legit! As long as you can avoid any mark-up, I think you'll be fine. Saving money and being conservative over wants and needs is absolutely sound advice, but if you can afford your wants, then...YOLO.

All I'll say is there's nothing like NOT having a car note!

Not SeeThruHead, but here is my reasoning:

My philosophy in the stock market is to keep shoveling money into index funds while you're earning it and to keep transaction costs to a minimum. The number of investors who can beat average returns after transaction costs reliably in incredibly small. Chasing highs and lows is futile for almost everyone.

The bubble may pop or we may be approaching a new permanent baseline. Currently projected prices for new models when things get back to normal may be significant underestimates.

I'm going to keep driving mine as I don't have the patience (or life expectancy) to waste a year or two driving something I don't enjoy driving. Despite my wife starting to hint that I should trade for something with a grab handle for the passenger

Do you have your eye on any other vehicles? Or is it new Z or nothing. You definitely could sell now and get something new to you or if you don't mind a car note put a significant down-payment on something extraordinary. Personally I'd wait and see how the new is before I ultimately commit to one but it's a damn solid choice. Good luck!!

This resonates with me.
If you aren't attached to the car and you can be without a car until the market settles down and prices go back to normal, then yes, sell it for profit. If however, you plan on upgrading immediately - you're not gaining anything, you'll be spending MORE money than you're spending now, just to upgrade your car. If you're happy with your car now, then that makes no sense.

well if the new Z is about 40K and you sell your Z for 36K and the two of you can get by on 1 car... Put the money in savings and call it the new Z fund, and then add to it...

Other wise I would just keep the Z and enjoy it....

Yea, it’s the new Z or nothing. But only if it’s $40,000 ish.

Yea, this is pretty much where I’m at. I won’t mind a $7,000 note for the new Z fits going to be $42,000 ish. The only way I’d sell is if the new Z is really going to be $40,000 as the rumors state.

To add to my story, my wife and myself both work at the same Golf Course which is 15 minutes from home. We can always drive in together and one of us could take the car home and come back on the days we’re not working the same hours, or I’m considering getting a beater bike to ride back and forth while I wait.

I'd go ahead and sell your Z if you can get near 36k for it. Worse case scenario, the new Z drops for 50k (probably won't), so you take that $$$ and just buy a newer 370z. I like the new Z!

I, along with most people here, can guarantee the new Z will not be had for anywhere near 40k - at least for the first year. Just like the corolla gr. If the supply chain is still the way it is, dealerships are going to continue to ride that wave and just go with allocations/orders. Honestly it works for them. Cars are sold before they get to the lot. Nothing has to sit around so they don't need to negotiate. Guaranteed business with maximum profit. Mark-up is icing on top. Furthermore, I swear they are installing all these dumb a$$ accessories like pin stripes, ceramic coating, door edge guards, etc. that you have no other option but to purchase with the car.

Also, I'd go as far to say that out of all the cars that have been introduced recently, the new Z probably has the most anticipation.

My point is, how long can you actually wait? I'd say tack on another year on top of the new Z's actual release date (and I mean when they are hitting the docks) for a "decent" deal.

This! I'm all for people picking one up and being excited that we got a "new" Z coming, but let's temper our expectations and be more realistic with how it is likely going to unfold.....at least in the first year (or until the market returns back to "normal").

Another thing to think about is that the BASE z will maybe start around $40k. Not sure what you have now but if you’re selling for $36k I’d think it’s a sport touring package. I imagine the new fully loaded Z will go for over $50k, with a dealer markup close to $60k at least.

No. My answer is slightly different from the money aspect. 370z has way lower production than the 350z. Every day on FB I see Z cars getting totaled. I think we're coming up on critical mass where 370z is just starting to get a bit harder to find.

370z is the last of the mechanical based components. The new Z has a lot more electronics. I think there will be a time where people wish they had all the analog gauges sitting in front of them. The cockpit really exemplifies driver oriented feel while being a minimalist.

Styling - This is subjective... but the rear quarters of this car is iconic. Nissan basically made a mini tub from the factory.
